I did this in my Civic. I might do this in my WRX as well.

I dunno if anyone has pointed this out, but autolumination or superlumination also offers a 15 led replacement that has six leds around the base of the bulb that flash to the side which might be better for the blinkers since you can't see them that well from the side... Just a thought.

That's my plan, to pick up the 15LED matrix style ones, and see how well they work.

Still need pictures in the day of them...thats supposodly the worst part about LEDs is the day time brightness. I want to see how bad they really are before dumping money into it

I've ordered some 7440s and 7443s. Just enough to do one of the rear assemblies in an 04 WRX sedan. I'll do pics comparing the two sets (bulbs on one side, leds on the other). Front and back (same turn signal bulb for each).

didn't bother with an led bulb for the reverse lights. What I wanted was the way the leds "snap" on/off. I figure that if at all close to the same brightness, the faster rise/fall time of the leds will be more eye-catching. I've noticed how much more I see the center led (wing) brake-light turn on than the sides when following my wife in one of other cars.

They came in, and I got them installed (pics to follow when I remember to bring the camera, dark in morning/night, so no daytime pics).

From looking at them both (swapped out only the passenger-side rear cluster bulbs for LEDs), the turn signals are just as bright as the bulbs, the center and outside brake-lights are also just as bright as the bulbs, but the inner brake light (that wierd rear projector) isn't nearly as bright, due to the shape of the reflector. Not sure if anything can be done about that or not.

The reflector is designed around finding the filament in a certain position and focusing all of the light out the back of the car, through the round lens. The LEDs don't align right, and cause it to not aim out properly. The bulb comes down into the reflector at an angle from above/outboard, and the beams from the LEDs just aren't efficiently being reflected by the reflector.

Like I said, I'll get pics up soon.

Although, the rate at which the leds snap on is GREAT. The turn signal bulbs are really slow to come on/off, and the leds are razor sharp. Very eye-catching.

I take that back.. In brighter sun (it's pretty overcast today), the led turn signal isn't nearly as bright as the bulb one, mainly in how much of the reflector lights with the amber color.

I ordered from superbrightled's and got them less than a week later.

Here's a side by side video: LED's vs stock taillight bulbs:
http://media.putfile.com/WRX-taillig...e-regular-ones (1.1 MB)

And LED's in all the taillight slots:
http://media.putfile.com/LED-tails-full (900K)

They are 7443's and 7440's. I think I have it
7443-7443-7440 [license plate] 7440-7443-7443
which may or may not be backwards.

Problem is that now I need one for the 3rd brake light.

Anyhoo, pretty sharp, pretty cheap, glad I did it.

im lovin the look. i just ordered the LEDS for the brake and reverse, i think that i am going to go with either the sylvania silverstar turnsignals or something that has the chrome on the outside of the bulb for the turn signals. i dont feel like messing with resistors, i know that its easy i just dont want the hassle

you're the man! this is exactly the proof i needed for myself to buy led tail bulbs. i didn't think they'd work too well in the 02/03 lenses, but they are obviously just as bright as oems. I'm buying these bulbs right now!

I did a daytime test this morning and had no problem seeing it. We'll have to see if I get rear ended, but it doesn't look any more dim to me, nor does it appear to affect it from the sides.

I just ordered some 1157's for my Miata taillights.

You've got an '03, right? Don't they have different tail-lights than the '04s?

If you got the festoon bulbs from superbrightleds.com, you might be disappointed. I found them to be way too dim, especially when just the dome light was on. I bought the map lights from here: http://www.taskled.com/dome.html
They look pretty redneckish, but they're uber bright and give off a nice white light. Kinda pricey, but when they turn on, I forget about the price.

thanks for the info... but right now i have the 2-led red bulb and isn't 'bright' but is great to put on at night and not affect your vision. so a white version should be like night and day so-to-speak. after spending 60 on led tail bulbs i don't think the wife would be happy with another expensive bulb hehe. however she does complain about the red lights in the car now...

Yeah, a friend of mine ordered from superlumination and they took at least a week to ship. I ordered from superbrightleds and had mine in 3 days.

I've ordered from superbrightleds.com - customer service was fine, but the products were disappointing. I bought brakelights, maplights, and a dome light. The maplights were ok, but I've since found brighter ones. The dome light is WAY too dim, as someone else has mentioned. The brakelights made my fuse blow whenever I installed both of them. I still haven't figured out why. So if anyone wants to buy them off me . . .
