Cobb Stage 2 but my gas mileage SUCKS....
What can I do to get better gas mileage? I am only getting about 290-300 on a full tank of gas. I know I should be getting more according to others on this forum and others right? Is a pro tune the only fix to this issue? It is my daily driver back and fourth to work and I need better gas milage. I thought after going stage 2 and staying off the heavy gas I should get 25 city and 28ish highway. Am I mistaken? Please help.

Stay off the boost to get better gas mileage for sure... I've never really checked my gas mileage but I can sure tell on the PDX maps if I drive hard and stay on boost it doesn't get good mileage (of course).
Do you have a boost guage? |

Im amazed you think thats horrible mileage, thats what i get on my stock STI. In fact I tend to get ~19.5 MPG which is around 260-70 when the light kicks on. Thats not horrible mileage at all really. Just the price you pay for all that extra oomph. A protune would probably help though, lean it out a bit which should provide a tad more mileage.

I doesn't seem like you are that far off from me depending on how many gallons a full tank is. I'm running a stage 2 and usually fill up 12 gal at about 300mi. I have been getting 25 mpg, with more highway than city. I tried for a couple tanks to conserve (BTW, the econo map got me worse mileage) but it didn't really help 26 mpg versus 25 mpg.
Also I'm approaching 60k, so hopefully new fluids, plugs and filter will help some. |

I usually get around 310 on my STI before the gas light comes on, then I have about another 3 gallons left. I average around 24mpg in it, it's bone stock...

Put some air in your tires. I go 5psi above what is suggested and I get a buttload better mileage than when set at factory spec. Plus 5psi isn't enough to mess with tread wear either. At least I haven't noticed any issues.

thats horrible???? you must cruise control at 30mph to work and back to even get that much, have some fun already.
I get 22mpg if i never break 3K in any gear with mixed city and highway. Normal non crazy driving is about 19mpg, less on winter gas. 27mpg 80mph cruise control highway only. note: this is on stage 2 map, MPG was lower on stock ecu. |

I usually get about 19 around town, and about 24-25 on freeway climbing the mountain passes between Medford and Eugene, OR, and from Medford to Mt. Shasta, CA. That's doing 70 the whole way. I have seen 30 on flat freeway trips, and 34(!) running from Klamath Falls to Bend to Medford. That's only going about 60 mph for that trip. Cobb stage 2 w/up-pipe, and TBE.

check your tire pressure. when I got my stage 2, I was getting worst mileage than stage 1, which had better mileage than stock. I went to pump some air one day and it was at 30 psi. pumped it back up and got great mileage again.

if you fill out your profile, we'll know what you're driving . . .
which would at least add a data point to the guessing game. also, what is your actual computed mpg? |

I'll trade you my stock equipment for your stage two parts. That way I can have more fun and you can get better gas mileage.
Just kidding, paying for gas sucks when you like driving for entertainment value. |

300 in an STI is pretty damn good, I have been getting about 250 stock. On a recent almost 1000 mile drive I got around 340 all highway at 80 mph. I probably could have gotten alot better at 65 or 70, but who wants to drive 1000 miles at 65 mph.

keep your foot out of it
Everyone complains about not having enough power, yet when you get more power, now you complain about lower gas milege. You can always revert to stock. Want to play, you gotta pay |

I routinely get 300 miles before the gas light comes on. If I ran the tank dry I'd probably get 360-375 miles out of a tank on my '06 STI. Right now it's bone stock...
