Default Logistics of getting scheduled maintenance on Stage2 car (NH)

I am going to take my '08 GR to Stage 2 and beyond and have some questions regarding getting scheduled maintenance (not repair work). When on the east coast my dealer is Exeter Subaru in Stratham, NH.
-Since I need to uninstall the AP, will I need to remove the DP either to avoid problems with the service department or for compatiblity with the stock map?
-Putting the latter part of the previous question more succinctly, would it harm the engine to return to the stock map for the trips to and from the dealer while the DP is installed?
-Would the dealer have any qualms about a catless DP?

Thanks. Anyone else, maybe someone familiar with this dealer?

Would it harm the engine to uninstall the AP and return to the stock map for the trips to and from the dealer while the DP is installed?

Why bother flashing back to stock? They'll see the downpipe and void your warranty if they want to

I brought my '04 to Exeter Subaru with stage II mods for the 30k check-up. Everything went fine and they never said a word about it being modified. I had a catted DP at the time so i'm not sure if catless will pass a sniff test? But Exeter Subaru is one of those dealers that is aware what people do to these cars and seems not to care at all what's done to it. Of course it could be an excuse for warranty work if needed but for scheduled maintenance I don't think you need to worry!

Even if you uninstall the AP they can still tell if the ECU has been touched. But stay out of boost if you really want to return to stock map (you'll throw a CEL eventually with the catless TBE and stock map).

Just find a mod friendly dealership or wait until your warranty is out. Just remember your ECU only lets you flash a base map about 100 times. If you are going to get regular maintenance done by them, they shouldn't care if its modded. Your paying for their services. SOA only cares when it comes to them paying for warranty work.

Are scheduled maintenances free on the new cars? If not, why would the dealer care if you've modded the car? Even with mods I can't see how they would complain about typical services like fluids and belts?

^^ this. I don't see why they would care, unless it is warranty work, or the car is leased. I have always taken my car to the dealership for scheduled maintenance, and I've been stage 2 for over a year. I don't think you'll have a problem.

My personal experience is that no dealer will turn down work on your car *UNLESS* it is a warranty issue. If it is a good dealership then they will not deny a warranty issue for "Stage II" mods (e.g. TBE and tune).

Bald Hill Subaru once diagnosed my TOB noise issue as rattle from my Rally Armor skidplate. Clearly, they didn't want to do the transmission work under warranty and officially documented the noise as sourced from an after market skidplate. Instead of going to war with them I simply took my business elsewhere.

Also, remember that no dealership can deny/void your warranty because of a few mods. However, they can deny to perform certain work under warranty if an issue can be easily linked to any modified part(s).

With that said, I use a local performance shop that has years of experience working on imports (mostly Honda and Subaru cars).

I know the guys personally and trust them to do any job.

My experience now guides me away from dealerships but Exeter Subaru in NH seems to be a great shop (definitely an exception to the norm). I had a chance to visit their location when they hosted a meet. They certainly seem to be mod friendly.

P.S. Taking off all of your after-market parts to go to the dealership is a complete waste of time IMHO.

this- is dumb.

A dealer can not void your warranty unless they can prove that a part you installed/had installed in the car was the cause of the failure

or basically what DJ said

Let's face it folks, you gotta pay to play. I know it sucks to be grown up about it, but that's the way it is

and on another note- why not do it yourself?

Learn to do the work yourself! This way you know the work was done properly, and you will save a TON of money.

99% of scheduled maintenance can be learned from simply reading a couple of posts on here or IWSTI. (or other sites) For the most part, this is how I learned to do all the maintenance on my STi.

It's also allowed me to become more comfortable working on cars, and installing other parts as well. (coilovers, doing my own complete alignments @ home, TBE, fuel pump, etc)

They can not directly just void your warranty, what i meant to say was they can note it in your record and then if you come in for warranty work they can go back into the notes and see you had parts x,y, and z that "caused" your issue. Thus voiding your warranty.

I totally agree about the pay to play mentality.....i basically wiped my a$$ with my warranty a few months after i got my car.

don't worry about exeter, they sell all sorts of aftermarket parts there, not just group-n and spt stuff. When it comes to modded cars they are the most accepting, but as long as the dealer doesn't reflash the ECU any dealer should do maintenance work to a modded car with no issues.

we have quite a few modded subarus come in for service at my dealership. We have no problem with it, and don't void your warranty unless your a douche. I believe most dealers work the same in these situations...

Oh hell. Is there any way around that? Can the counter be reset? What if you are using Tactrix and ST instead of an AP?

If you want a local dealer alternative for scheduled maintenance I would highly recommend contacting Scotty's Country Auto in Exeter. He is a subaru master tech with over 25 years experience.

It has nothing to do with a counter. It's a physical limitation to how many times an EEPROM can be re-written successfully. I'd be surprised if it's as few as 100, but all PROMs have a limited number of times that each cell can be written to.

I wouldn't bother with any of that. If you're paying them for service, they're not going to care how modded that car is, unless you have parts in the way that they have to remove to get access to anything. In that case, it may cost a little more in labor.

And as far as warranty goes, just be honest. They're going to know if you go back to stock, so why bother. If you run into a problem that's related to your mods, be an adult and pay for the parts you broke by over-stressing them. If it's an un-related problem, you shouldn't have an issue getting it covered.

I've taken my car to Nashua Subaru numerous times for service, and they never blink at my mods (VF34, aftermarket TMIC, aftermarket exhaust, etc.)

It's a limitation of the memory, which isn't designed to be a high write count device. I don't know if anyone has ever gotten to the point where the PROM won't hold data.
