normal for air to leak out past compressor housing?
i did a boost leak test last week to find my boost leak. only leak i found was air blowing from the back of the compressor housing. so i figure turbo is blown and call forced performance to ask questions about a rebuild. (my turbo is an aps ss45 NOT A FP TURBO) person on the phone was very helpful and said its normal for air to leak past the compressor housing. i found it odd and hit google and found many instances where it is "normal" for this too happen. just looking for any advice or people who have had this happen this to them? help i have a terrible boost leak i cant seem to find, car is undrivable in 5th gear.
thanks adrian

It's not "normal" at all. Any air escaping from your compressor is a boost leak. You might be able to fix it yourself if you can get remove the housing. Put a bead of sealant along sealing surface and voila.
I have used that technique on other turbos before with much success. |

Yea when I searched I found a thread on some DSM forums where they would take off the compressor covers off of the turbos and do what your speaking about
