Default 95 OBS Gas and no go?

I am looking to buy a 95 impreza wagon but the owner of it says it starts up fine and idles fine but when the gas is applied the car does not move. Anyone know for sure what would be causing this?

It sounds to me that it could be the throttle cable, or a fuel problem. I would like to know what I am up against before I descide to buy it so your help ASAP! would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dan

Yah, that could be it. The car is about an 8 hour drive away so I would like to bring as many parts it could be as possible to make sure I cover all angles. Anything else it could be?

it's hard enough to diagnose a car thru the internet when you have it, it's even harder when you yourself haven't even seen the car. according to your first sentence, i would take off the parking brake.

I am sure the owner is no that stupid. Like I said just wanted to get a few ideas of what it could be before I make an 8hour drive to look at it. Want to try and fix it if I do by it. Sounds like it could be a simple fix and the owner just does not know jack about cars. So we will see.

Just curious as to what happened. To me, it sounds like the transmission's forward drives are shot.
