The stock battery is WEAK, It barely cranked mine in 90* weather. Your better off just replacing it

I'm all for cramming the biggest battery in there as possible, maybe even a deep cycle.

If in doubt, park on an incline.

Got an Autozone nearby? You could just get a Duralast Gold, 640 CCA. The regular Duralasts are only $15 cheaper, so the Gold is a no brainer. 3 year free replacement, one of the top rated batteries for years...Edit: I think even after the 3 years is up, they'll give you a pro-rated replacement for a time.

Just a thought.

I had Optima Red Top batteries in my last 2 cars. Love those things!

Same with Advance Auto and their Autocraft Gold batteries. I had one die in another vehicle at about 30 months. Starting was becoming difficult even though I never ran the battery down or abused it. They tested it, saw that it was failing, brought out another and installed it on the spot for free. They have AGMs in some groups.

well nice to see others are noticing the oem bat is 330cca, to answer your question yes your car will take a while to turn over with that battery in cold weather, don't get me wrong it will start up just will take a while. I replaced my battery with interstate mtp 35 if you live in cold weather battery contains more lead than acid so you are all good. I would stay away from the optimas, I have an optima in my current accord and previous civic however they changed manufacturing to mexico and quality took a dive so they have been dropping quite often these days. I had considered getting an agm but I was feeling extra cheap so I went for the best compromise. I always recommend you stick with a battery made by johnson controls over exide but thats just my own opinion if you wanted a good cheap battery walmart everstart and costco kirkland signature are all made by johnson controls just check the battery and it will tell you who makes it. Also pay attention to manufacturing date. As a side note some of the walmart everstart's are also made by exide.

Group 35 battery
If you change battery you will have to make the car relearn fuel trim.
any questions pm me.

probably going to get either a Diehard Platinum or a Batteries Plus X2, both are AGM and both are rebadged Odyssey's.

Deka doesn't make a group 35 AGM which is a little disappointing because I love Deka batteries. my 2 other cars and my motorcycle run Deka's.

i had an optima that lasted me 9years in my old car but since they moved to Mexico i won't touch one

If someone can tell me what battery "group" our Imprezas use (for example, Group 65, 34, 78), I'll tell you what Consumer Reports says are the best batteries in that group.

Bosch, i was looking eariler. they haven't tested any group 35 AGM batteries though. the Diehard Platinum is AGM made by Odyssey and is top rated out of all batteries they have tested. i would expect the group 35 version to be the same.

but i want some sort of AGM battery, they just last longer where I live, and I have had nothing but good luck with them.

Flyboy, since you'll be plugged in anyway, check out the battery warmer.

definetly will be looking at my battery tray and doing some measuring tomorrow. if we have the same tray that came on the outbacks, a group 34 will fit w/o the sleave on it. which would be awesome because a group 34 rebadged DEKA at carquest is like 130.00

A group 46 is about 20% larger and may fit our cars. I'll be sticking with the stocker this winter, but if anyone test fits one, thanks in advance.

Absorbed glass Matt. Can be mounted in any direction, 100% non spillable, handles charge cycles better, handles vibrations better, overall a better battery technology, downside is usually cost double.

The battery tray is under 5.00, so if one from an outback or a different car will bolt up, I think I will go with a group 34. Never seen a group 46

Other than price, how do you know if a battery uses that technology? I assume that none of the batteries in my Consumer Reports list above are AGM, right?

consumer reports doesn't test the agm's often. If a battery is agm it will say so, you can also tell from looking at it, well assuming you look at a lot of batteries. I miss you optima yellow top oh well, yeah no way I am paying for diehard agm like I said interstate was the compromise choice. diehard brand is cheaper than odyssey brand eventhough they are the same battery, I say black friday sale at sears

The deka intimidator rebadged with a carquest label is around 130.

This is assuming I can make a group 34 fit

other than fabricating my own battery tray, not sure how to fit a group 34 in there, so maybe i will just wait until sears has a good sale on batteries and get one then
