Luke,
I just read through the entire thread, lots of very good information. Put me in the category of the Californians who drive 2-5 hours on dry roads to the mountains. Basically from the beach up to 10,000 feet. The thing to consider is that the conditions in the mountains can be down right nasty. We have to be ready for everything... Deep snow, packed snow, ice, black ice, slush, even a CHP officer checking your tires at a safety checkpoint. From what I have read your preferred 2008-2009 recommendations for the Californians were the following: 1) Pirelli Sottozero, 2) Dunlop Wintersports, 3) Blizzak WS60. What is your top recommendation for the mountain going Californians for 2009-2010? Year: 2009 Make: Subaru Model: WRX Location: Beach to the Mountains Tires or winter package: Dedicated winter package (prefer a 17' wheel) Thanks. options 1 or 2 would be the way to go for you with #2 being my preference

Hey luke, i'm in southern Canada, and plan to visit some local mountains similar to Denver CO in some parts(ice and snow up to 1' deep).
I saw your recommendation for jdmeg693 and am guessing that would be best. "in Denver and the surrounding areas I really like the Pirelli Winter 240 Sotto Zero and the Winter 210 Sotto Zero ... another popular choice is the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D" year: 2006 make: Subaru model: Impreza 2.5i location: Vancouver, Canada tires only or winter package: smallest fitting wheel diameter winter package Steelies and 195/70/15 (the snow can get quite high so i'm hoping the extra sidewall will be of help) Could i get a pm'd quote shipped to 98281 WA. thanks luke |

Any thoughts or feedback on the Pirelli Winter 210 Snowsport? Might be buying a set this week mildly used.

You ain't getting anything in that awkward size. Just stick with 195/65/15 for correct speedo reading. Either Winterforce or General Altimax Arctic will be plenty solid. |

So any deals for the 2009 winter coming up?
looking for a set of Dunlop SP winter sport 3D for my 03WRX wagon. any other tired i should consider? these will be on the stock wheels driving around Chicago and occasionally up north to Wisc. and MI to got boarding Thanks! also, take a look at the new Blizzak LM60 high performance winter tire. The tread pattern has been optimized for more snow traction Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 09-25-2009 at 10:16 AM. |

I put ~1k+ city miles per month on the car for work, and I'm sure I'll be out doing my job even when its blizzarding.. so deep snow is second after ice traction, for me. Thinking of winterforces or those new conti's that came out, but any other suggestions are certainly welcome. in your area I would run the Blizzak WS-60 or the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 with the WS60 being my first choice Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 09-25-2009 at 10:21 AM. |

Another plus for the arctics is they are well liked by RallyXers and seem to be pretty durable (there were some reviews from people foolishly running them all year and liking them) |

make: Subaru model: WRX location: St. Louis, MO tires only, stock 205/55-16 size. Im needing to get some new tires for the off season / Winter. Problem being with the decision is we never know what weather we are going to get. We can have a Snowy winter 2in snows or 15in snows. We can have Ice Storms or it could be 60 all winter. I was looking at the LM-25 205/45R16's but if we dont have much snow how bad will these wear out and how quickly. I can drive around 400 miles a week. Would I be better off going to with an all season? Last year I ran around with Khumo ASX's, they were not to bad I just wanted a little more towards the winter/fall tire and then some RE-11's for next spring/summer. I have many people running LM22's and 25's in your area for the exact reasons you stated. and the added wet stopping power when it's 35-40 degrees is HUGE Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 09-25-2009 at 04:41 PM. |

Subaru WRX wagon Vancouver, BC tires or maybe with steel rims shipped to 98281 I have narrowed my choices to the Dunlop Wintersport 3D and the Bridgestone WS-60. I am not sure which would be the best. I live on the hill so deep snow and probably ice would be an important factor. Would 195/60-R15 fit over the stock brakes I have? Thanks Luke While the Dunlop is a great tire in the performance winter tire category it is not even close to the Blizzak WS60 as far as snow and ice traction we have no 15" wheels for your car but, if you find some the proper tire size would be 195/65-15 or 205/60-15 Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 09-30-2009 at 10:22 AM. |

Subaru Impreza WRX Hatch Twin Cities, MN Tires Roads always seem to be full of ice but I always seem to find where the snowfalls... will be at the hills just about everyday for work as well. Along with the couple road trips back to Colorado since I just moved back to MN. Also, could I get a PM'd quote shipped to 55431? Thanks the top two choices for you would be the Blizzak WS60 or the Michelin X-Ice XI2 with the WS60 getting the nod if it was my $$$ Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 09-30-2009 at 10:22 AM. |

hey Luke,
Just looking for winter tires on the stock wheels. What would be a good size tire for winter? Anything that could give me a little more clearance would be great. We have fairly moderate to severe winter conditions and I make a few trips to the UP of Michigan each winter. I'm not looking for the most expensive tire, but will spend the money for good tires. Blizzak WS-60, LM-60, or Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D? When will the Winter sport 3d's be available? year:2007 make: Subaru model: WRX TR location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin tires only or winter package: Tires only Thanks! the new Continental Extreme Winter Contact and the Michelin X-Ice XI2 are both great choices for your conditions and use. If you find more than a couple of trips to the UP are in the planning then the Blizzak WS60 might also make sense. I would opt for the Michelin if it were my call. Hey,
2009 wrx hatch Montreal I do a lot of winter driving (running a ski company), often late night, desolate back highways...too often in 1' plus snowfalls. Had studded tires on my old RS and thinking about going that route again. Def. want to put on some steelies as well, can I go with 16's? Thanks. WOW now that is extreme winter driving ... go with 16" steelies and run a 195/60-16 tire size ... the WS60 would be the tire of choice if it was my call Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-01-2009 at 03:51 PM. |

Oh, and don't forget to register at Forced4s.com, too! http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1581422 If you drove around fine with your 4Runner, you'll be fine in the WRX, even with teh factory all-seasons, particularly at full tread-depth, as long as you pay good attention to inflation. If you want to have some fun when it's wintry out, as well as increase your overall safety envelope, any of the "Performance Winter" genre will do nicely. Typically, these tires will even exceed the OEM's performance in clear weather conditions. If you want to do some ice-racing or want to get more aggressive unplowed-roadway traction and further increase your safety envelope under icy conditions, go for the "Studless Ice & Snow" genre winter tires. You'll trade-off a bit of clear-road fun and clear-highway stability/tracking. |
