I heard the CVT will take half a second more to get to 60. Whats the appeal in that?

It's slower, gets worse gas mileage and weighs more... I guess people are just so lazy that not needing to shift/clutch is worth the other negatives. Beats me, they sound crazy.

It does get a better AWD system, VTD.

I doubt the MPG will be worse. We'll see when EPA numbers come out and owners start reporting what they're getting.

I had a boner when the 02 WRX came stateside, had a boner when the 04 Sti came stateside, had a boner when the 9-2x was introduced, had a boner with the 08 Sti. With that being said, it's been a while since Subaru gave me a boner. I have a feeling with the way the 2015 looks and knowing it will be around for years to come, I mine as well cut it off.

Anyways, this happens every announcement; Everyone's gonna be in love with it in 1-2 years. The aftermarket is going to do amazing things.
making the sti model a 2 door which would be 400lbs lighter makes no sense? the 2 door hit 60 in 4.2 seconds with 276hp in a 2.2L which is the fastest time in any STi from the factory..Just imagine if the 2 door model had the 305hp engine what it could do..It would make all the difference if the STi came standard in a 2 door its there top of the line sportscar..if you want 4 doors stick with the wrx ..everyone wins..

Can someone please tell me why there is so much hate on the 2.0 Liter? I've had every generation WRX so far (except 04-05, hated the headlights) and I still prefer the 2.0 over the 2.5 any day. When I was still wrenching on these things every day, I replaced ten times as many 2.5's as I did 2.0's. As far as I'm concerned, the 2.5 is junk. My current car is a stock block EJ20 making well over 300 wheel and has been for quite a long time. My other EJ20 equipped car was heavily modified also and never gave me a lick of problems. Honestly I was afraid to do anything more than a cat-back and a stage one Cobb tune on my 07, 09, or 11. Even then, every time I drove them I was just waiting for the ringlands of death to raise their ugly head.

I'm currently debating the new WRX vs 328. The stats are pretty similar. Wish the subsaru MPG was as good as the BMW.

Have you not seen WHY the rating is what it is for the CVT? It will get better mileage in intelligent. 30mpg highway but the gubment says they have to rate it based on a blend of the three modes which force the CVT to act like a 6 or 8 speed. Moral of the story, if you let the cvt act like a cvt you get better mileage. If you make it act like a 6 or 8 speed you get worse mileage but a more traditional feel.

Ugly. But maybe the sti package will look better or the aftermarket parts will be able to dress the pig up a little better.

Finaly some sensibility in all these threads with keyboard warriors hating something that they have not driven and only seen pictures of...

To everyone complaining how the transmission sucks, the engine sucks, it will drive like ****... how about you wait till you actually DRIVE it and then type away. Until that time everything you say is bs.

Sorry just tired of all the bull**** posts.

Go get your 2014 WRX if you are in the market for a new rex- it will hold value like gold.
It feels like 2008 again - New shape, Ugly, slow, more expensive WRX (I had one, I lived to regret that).
2009 had 45hp more and better suspension, better looks, and I wanted to shoot myself.

Honestly I think this new WRX has some potential to be a fun sporty new age WRX, they definitely improved upon the mechanics of the current WRX by adding the DIT and the 6MT and if it handles as well as they say they it should be a great car. I am just hoping that the STI model steps the game up two fold, would be nice to see an STI hit the market with more aggressive exterior features and about 350hp

To be honest I am skeptical the curb weight is only 60lb more - which is not fair to say, but...
remember when in 2008 they said that even though the engine/turbo are the same with the same HP like the 2007, the hatch is lighter and will be quicker. Well, it wasn't.
so...
supposedly we have a more powerful but smaller 2.0L engine that is also fuel efficient(that always implies "power" right?), In a car that is larger. And all that equates to better performance?
Maybe I am just bitter that 300hp with same amount of torque is not the new standard.
I was also hoping the new STi would be 400hp which would push me to shell out the extra 10k.
And yes, the track-day improvements in the STi are wasted on me, power would be the only thing.
Stage 1 or 2 in a 2011 rex is what I was hoping as a standrad in a stock 2015 (at the crank).

Lol @ comparing the best handling best equipped best power curve and arguably best looking 2015 wrx to the 2008 roll out. Not even remotely comparable.

Just saying...until someone drives it, on paper, I am not sure about it.
Best looking WRX ? its too Impreza and not enough WRX for my taste.
Are you saying that it looks better than the 2011 wide body?
We can argue about aesthetics, but just so you know, I would be very happy to be wrong on my performance assumptions here.

The concept looked so cool. Why do they think we can't handle an attractive car!

Yes it looks better to the GR in almost every way. And I owned a 2011 sti sedan so I consider myself an authority.

I will reserve my judgement on the looks until I see it in person.

2.0L cool. Possible to achieve better fuel economy, a huge concern of mine.

6 mt. Awesome! Hopefully it's geared like all WRX owners want. The same as what we got now, with a 6th gear.

Direct injection. Uh oh. Is this gonna be a problem?

Obv, it won't be as torquey as the 2.5 but I have confidence that the car should be a nice option for people to consider. I haven't seen anything on the new turbo yet. Is it larger than the current turbo?

And indeed you are, more than me for sure. I was a fan of the hatch from the get go.
For me there is double disappointment- one being far from the concept I went to see with my own eyes, and two - no hatch.

They seem to have taken general styling cues from the 2009 ford focus. Not good.

Hopefully they have something better planned for the 2015 STI

Well, I'm glad to see them using direct injection, but I'm sad to see another ugly car. Sorry but my 2006 STi is still top of the favorites list for me.

A bit of google-fu reveals that the engine LOOKS like it has a smaller intercooler than the 2014 WRX. Therefore it is sadly safe to assume its a smaller turbo.
