^^ thats what I'm saying! OEM parts and technicians FTW!

I've had too many horror with stories with body shops with my own car to learn that lesson!

Good luck homie.

The footprints and mess inside the car is just plain unacceptable.

When I was working in a body shop, I started out cleaning cars. If I ever gave a car back to a customer like that, my manager would have hung me.

No names. Will give them a chance to make good.

Lol. Ghetto engineering is one thing if you need to do it in a pinch but when you pay in excess of 3k for repairs, it should be done right.

Im wondering what u paid? If the insurance paid for it u prolly shoulda gone to a dealer.

But if u paid good money that crap is pathetic. Reminds me of the guy on here that had his 350 Z pretty much totaled by pathetic body work.

Insurance picked up the tab. I honestly didnt know dealers did body work but like I said we have been to this shop in the past and its always been good.

The car is going back in this Wednesday. I just went there and they were very apologetic so I will hope for the best. When I get it back it is going straight to another body shop for an appraisal and let them have a look at it as they are the trained professionals.

Unfortunately, I know the damage that was done and I feel really bad about it. No amount of body filler is going to remove those screw holes from my mind. They may disappear from the metal but I will know they are there.

Body shop screwed up my old car beyond repair. The damage was only noticeable to the trained eye but the car was tainted in my eyes and every time I went to wash it or wax it I thought the effort was futile since the car was permanently scarred.

That is not even Maaco quality work and I personally would've taken it to another shop on their dime. If they screw up again you are going to get a lot of "I told you so's" and "It's your fault for taking it back there."

Most dealerships I've dealt with for body work don't do it in house. They usually have a body shop like you and I would walk into do the work for them at a discount, and the dealership keeps the difference.
The only dealership in my personal experience that did body work and paint in house was Porsche.

Make sure to keep us updated.

Mistakes happen. I will always give the benefit of thou doubt because we are all human and things like this happen, well except wood screws holding on the bumper, thats just ****ing lazy. If it continues to be piss poor work then back to insurance I go and let them deal with it.

Yes dealerships do body work but that doesn't mean they are good. When I took over this shop the guy before me ran it into the ground. I had never seen body work done as bad as it was here. Obviously thats changed now but it went on for quite a few years. Even if a shop was great for 10 years it doesn't mean its good now. Managers and techs come and go so unless you know the same people are still there then it might not be a good shop anymore.

Looks like most of the fixes can be done pretty easily. I am concerned about the screw through the quarter. How do they plan to A)fix the problem that caused them to use the screw in the first place B) fix the holes left by the screws.

If they say they are just going to put body filler over it, it will still rust. They should weld the hole up and use corrosion protection(epoxy primer) on both sides of the repair. Then they should use a base coat for the interior and try to match the inner quarter as best they can...won't match 100%. The outside will get the standard base/clear.

Its possible that the shop has new techs and they are crappy. The owner knows me and would not of let this happen, so I bet it was some new guys and they figured I wouldnt notice.

I outlined, in writing, all the problems I found and how I wanted those to be corrected. Dropped the car off this morning and I have yet to hear from them. I am going to call later on as I want to be kept informed of every step of this fix.

I would ask for some inspection points along the way to get a clear view of their repairs.

Was this shop in Staten Island? One of my friends took his WRX to a shop in Staten Island and their work seemed great. I can get you the shop's name if you are looking to take it elsewhere...

That screw might be worth a bit of a yell. Had it been, for example, a nice bolt and nut, maybe it's not so bad (if there was a reason for it), but that thing is a wood screw. The didn't even have the decency to use a sheet metal screw.

EDIT: having read the rest of the post, perhaps it would need to be a lighthearted yell. But a yell, nonetheless.

I'm sure if its the same owner then he will have no problem taking care of it. Unfortunately you can't stand over techs all day while they work. I've had some try to cut corners on me. I try to QC the car in stages as its being worked on but you hope to rely on the techs to do the right thing all the time. They are human and can be a great tech until he catches his girl with another guy then comes in and half azzes some cars.

If anyone has a problem like this or any other problem with a shop...never come in yelling and screaming about it. You best bet is to not put the person on the defensive. If someone comes up to you yelling at you, you would immediately go to defensive mode too...even if you are in the wrong. Don't expect the Manager/owner to do differently. A little social engineering goes along way in handling these matters.

So Ill be picking the car up tomorrow after the 3rd trip to the shop. First after the accident, second where they ignored all the paint defects and just cleaned my interior and fixed the lighting issues.

After I picked the car up the second time I went over it with them at the shop and they just slapped on body sealant to cover the holes and just removed the screw. I called them on it and went to see the owner of the shop. I had not dealt with the owner because he had been on vacation and was getting no where with the shop forman. The owner assured me he would have everything taken care of but I dont know what to believe.

Ill find out tomorrow how well they did and as soon as I get a chance it is going to another shop to get an idea of how well they did. Lets face it, I know what I like but without a professionals opinion Im just talking out my arse. The way I see it is, 3 strikes, you are out.

I hope it doesnt have to come down to litigation but anyone have any suggestions?

The insurance company can't really do anything for you. If they have a relationship with the shop then they might have an adjuster go out and look at the car with the shop but they can't do anything. Even if the insurance company told you to go there, they don't warrant the work, only the shop does. If the shop is on the insurance co. DRP or PRO program they have a little more influence. I would still have the adjuster look at the car in case you have to fight. That way someone else who knows how to repair a car can say it wasn't repaired correctly.

I can tell you I have worked in a bodyshop for over 10 years and I am i-car platinum vertified. Anyway that it not acceptable and you have every right to be pissed off. I would take it back to them and also notify the insurance company. Thats what you pay for.

Nothing they can do since they already made their payment for this claim.

For the most part the car came out better, not perfect/flawless and Im still very unhappy about the whole situation. The edges of the trunk are still very roughand overspray still remains. Im going to take it to another shop and get an estimate on how much it will cost to fix their mistakes and see what Im told.

I will never be going back to the original shop again. I used to recommend them to friends and my family has gone to them before but now they have lost a good customer forever. I was at work yesterday and I go outside to the car and I noticed my side mirrors had what looked like dust/dirst on them. I get up close and its overspray on the black trim of the mirrors. Im furious at how careless this job was handled.
