Arrow motogp mumblings

Rossi. Has now signed with Yamaha for a "challenge". He wants to prove to everyone it's his riding and not the bike. I thought his riding already spoke for itself. Wow.

This puts Nicky as number one rider on the Repsol squad. With his late season impressive riding he is now ready. IMHO Nicky is now a GP rider able to compete with the best. He , stood on a few podiums, topped the practice time charts, sat second on provisional and finally has his first fornt row qual start. Mick Doohan even blessed Nicky's talent and said within 2 years he could be champ!

KR's proton will be the wild card for next year. Rumors have been rampant that the new 5cyl. 4-s is going to be good. Also son Kurtis is being tipped to ride one on the GP scene.

Colin Edwards will now be back on a Honda and will be a factor next year. He will be riding alongside Sete G. on the telefonica team.

that is all and racing season os over

I can see Rossi still winning with Yamaha.

And wouldn't they take that as an insult, as a company? That the best rider wants to prove he's the best by winning on a crappy bike?

That's the way I read it! I think he'll still do well, but I think it would be really funny if he doesn't win on the Yami.

I spose Yammy could see it that way. But they now have the best in the world on their bike. Booyam. He will do good but not dominate. Who knows maybe Yam has something we don't know about. They have not been too shy abouit their R&D efforts. Rossi also said it has nothing to do with money or sponsor appearances. He simply wants to be challenged. Wow he must have truck loads of confidence.

Ya want a challenge? ride an Aprila or Kwaki Kinda funny he did not go to Ducati being from his home country.

My local dealer had an autograph session with Kurtis and a few others. They all said Kurtis was by far the most approachable and the friendliest.

When was this announced? The last I heard (yesterday), Rossi was not allowed to name the team he will be riding for next season. Ducati has hinted that they have a new rider on the D'Antin team alongside Hodgson and Xaus, but can not reveal the identity of that rider yet........

My bad for jumping the gun on the signing. The only done deal is Rossi is gone from Honda. I would say chances of him on a Yam are 70 to 80%.

below is quoted fromr David Brivio(sp) Fortuna Yam.

We welcome this evening's news that the Honda - Valentino Rossi relationship has drawn to a close. As many people know, when it became clear that there was a possibility that Valentino would not renew his agreement with Honda we made contact with his management team. I can confirm that our discussions with Valentino's management are proceeding well. With the confirmation that he shall not renew with Honda we shall proceed with our negotiations and hope to conclude an agreement within the immediate future.”

"This is obviously a very exciting prospect for us. However, until we have one hundred percent finalised an agreement with Valentino we shall not be able to comment further on the situation and on our Team's final line-up for 2004.”

www.amasuperbike.com

and all of the commentary on the race yesterday stated that Rossi has signed with Yamaha.

This coming year will be the best MotoGP or 500GP yet....Tons of talened riders on good machines.
The americans get great representation from Nicky and Colin.
Hopefully Roberts can get a good ride...No not Kurtis
I can't wait.....

I admire Rossi for making the switch. It will make him a legend(even more so) and it is great for the sport in general...

It would be good to see Schumacher try that in F1...Up until this year it has been a snorefest because it was all about Which Ferrarri would win.

MotoGp will be amazing in 2004...

Where is Jerry Burgess going to be? If he is going with Rossi, then Rossi stands a good chance of winning on a new bike, But if Jerry stays with Honda as Nicky's Crew Chief, then things could get very, very interesting.

I don't know about that. Nicky may be the future, but if they hire Alex Barros, I would put my money on him being #1, or at least an equal. I really can't see the 'best' team in MotoGP designating a 2nd-year rider with only one podium and one front-row start as their #1 rider.

Funny how now that Biaggi will have a better bike than Rossi, it looks like he might have to deal with a switch to Bridgestone tires next year. I can almost hear him complaining about it already.

Q: If Rossi has an issue with tobacco sponsorship, why is he going to ride for Gauloises Yamaha? Isn't Gauloises a brand of cigarettes?

good point wrxpress about shuey, or any top level driver taking a position not on money but on challenge. I give Vale mucho credit for doing this.

J Burgess may stay with Mick where he is settled and I'm sure getting paid well. Time will tell. I know a rider likes to have his own team boss for security.

I knew Rossi has always been on the anti smoking wagon so I don't know, maybe he is softening or bringing some of his own sponsor money to take off the cig money.

Below is a small quote for Colin after his 1st ride on teh Honda...

“It is so smooth that it feels slow – although evidently it’s not,” explained the American, who left the circuit at 2pm to return home to Texas. “The Aprilia was abrupt, peaky and ‘torquey’ but this thing is smooth – it has power everywhere. You can think of where you’re going as opposed to where you’ve just come from – there’s no need to gather yourself together, you can concentrate on what’s next

Thanks, I'm doing ok. Keep getting my butt kicked by a bunch of damn europeans.

Still haven't downloaded the ETCC mod yet either. Not sure whether I'll join in the upcoming VMS fun or just wait for my current league to end.

I am 2 races into my winter offline gtr series. I missed the first one (Laguna yuk) due to not being ready. 5 races with the 4 best counting. So now I have to ace every race to win. Rd Atl(newer/tougher/fun version) is due Sunday.

IIRC Schumacher did move to a crappy team when he joined up with Ferrari those many years ago. Then he improved the team by taking all the smart people with him

I didn't think Rossi would move without Burgess. The team might struggle next season, but look for them to make huge improvements throughout the year.

it's now official. below is copied relating to his suuport

Unmentioned in the release is that Rossi will be bringing most of the same technical team he's had at Honda. The crew is headed by Australian Jerry Burgess, a nine-time premier class crew chief, who probably would have stayed at Honda if he'd had the chance to work with Nicky Hayden. But that would mean taking Hayden away from current crew chief Trevor Morris, a move that would certainly have caused dissension in the garage. The second rider on the Repsol Honda team hasn't been named, though the name of Brazilian Alex Barros constantly pops up. Having worked on the World Championship-winning crew of Freddie Spencer, and been the crew chief for champions Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan, and Rossi, it's unlikely Burgess would have relished working with the journeyman Barros. Instead, he'll take his considerable skills to Yamaha where he and Rossi have the daunting task of developing the much-maligned Yamaha M-1.
