Look at the Charger. It was always a 2 door. When the Charger returned, it went 4 door and has been a sales success. Now sure, it helps they have the Challenger too. If the Charger was a 2 door again, either it or the Challenger would not survive.

The Golf was originally a 2 door but when the 4 door was offered, sales moved to the 4 door. To the point where the 2 door is dead.

The 4Runner was originally 2 door, then was offered in 4 door guise and now we have only a 4 door version. I'm sure it was a reason why the FJ failed.

No, it doesn't; the Mach-E is a complete departure from what a mustang is, it was a ground up separate vehicle design and a committee decided to slap a pony badge on it, the same way the ford probe (which was slated to replace the mustang) was a complete departure from what a mustang is, and how the eclipse cross is a complete departure from what the eclipse was.

If Ford slapped a bronco badge on a sedan or CUV it wouldn't be a bronco. The bronco was a truck based SUV; yeah it had two doors, but a Jeep Wrangler only ever used to have two doors until recently, a wrangler based pickup didn't exist until recently (Gladiator). So an F-150 or Ranger based SUV could wear the Bronco badge regardless of doors. Remember when the Ranger was an F-series trim level and not it's own model?

My statement about a 4dr mustang and nomenclature maybe muddied the waters a bit for you, but names don't particularly matter to me; an S550 chassis with four doors would still be a mustang, whether Ford would choose to call it that doesn't matter a lick to me.

If ford used the S550 chassis and stuffed an electric motor & battery packs in it (or developed a next gen chassis that would work with both ICE and electric components), I would still consider it a mustang, as long as it doesn't depart too far (for example become a crossover).

The original mustang was a re-skinned falcon with a good marketing campaign, people seem to forget that.

Except Jeep still makes a 2 door Wrangler. Ford still makes the 2 door Mustang. I don't care viability of a model if I would never consider the model in the first place. WRX sedan, don't GAF. Make it how it sells the best and I'm not walking into your dealership. My excitement for this took a **** with the 4 door long profile not at all in the spirit of any Bronco ever.

If I were in the market for a truck based ute 4Runner or GX are the only two options if I needed a family friendly off road setup that maintains resale value and reliability. Both offer a 3rd row.

I'm pretty sure what I'm seeing is not a Bronco. All of the driver's are Aussie. Likely a non-US vehicle, and they're just here because it's summer in Australia and they don't get snow anyway.

I understand what you are saying; but, I also got from this that you want them to spend loads of cash to bring something to market, just so you and a couple people will buy.....then it can die later cause more people would want a 4 door, and don't buy a 2 door.....but, you are OK, cause you got yours. Am I right?

this is a joke........

You spend a fair amount of time taking digs at people and then saying you were joking. Either be aggressive or be passive, please stop trying to combine the two.

If this thing is meant to compete with Jeep they're going to have to offer a two door yeah?

Likewise. I've been watching this one closely. We already have a 4Runner, so I'm all in on a 2 door.

Ostensibly, yes. Unlimiteds (4 doors) make up the majority of Wrangler sales, but there would be rioting in the streets (trails?) if Jeep discontinued the 2 door. I've owned both and the 2 door is the much better choice for the trail. Given that Ford is going after a slightly different market, I'm curious to see how long the two door lasts.

Car for car, I'd agree with that expectation. But this is a Ford truck - they're going to push this like crazy.

From what little can be seen, it looks promising. Do prefer the rear D pillar "roll bar" angle on the 4-door version vs the C pillar of the 2-door.

Now that is a good looking vehicle. Glad that they didn't eff this one up.

Not totally sure how I feel about those big plastic fenders, and the back of the 4-door looks a little too squared off, but I'll reserve judgement until we see more photos.

Rumors are a 7-spd manual will be an option.

I might give this a serious look. I've been thinking of shaking up our vehicle mix.
