Can't wait to see more of this, I would love to have some options for quality suspension upgrades for my '97 SVX! I'll be watching this one closely...

The mount was essentially normal except a stud extended from the upper plate (that touches the trans) and through a large hole in the lower plate (that touches the cross beam). The end of the stud had a large flat face with a bushing on it. Under normal conditions it made no contact with the lower plate but under extreme torque it would limit the distance the transmission would move! Perhaps you could use something similar? |

So a quick update for folks watching this. Suspension bits are still in an untouched state. Economy sucks too much to go off and work on that when we have more pressing parts we're working on.
The alternator went out on the SVX on Friday so replacement (Bosch remanu) went in today. While we were in there I went ahead and threw in a Kartboy crank pulley. Saves 2 lbs. |

Update - I have an idler pulley dying. I hope it's one for the accessory belts. I REALLY need to get into there and see if I can replace it. If not the whole pulley then we've got a shop up the way that's pretty good about matching up bearings if you can press them out.

I dont know if he will help (I am sure he would) but Cris (greenmarinesvx) has quite a bit done to his SVX. I believe he has coilovers, a 5 spd conversion and an ECU upgrade which netted him some better MPG's (oooh) and about 10hp/tq, and it it was fairly inexpensive. IDK what else he has done though,....oh he has a sweet sounding exhaust(FWIW)

Bingo. right now it's serving daily duty going back and forth from home to the shop, and from the shop to UPS and USPS.

I recently got a hold of 3 stock 2004 sti struts (the 4th was broken in half). The bolt patterns appear to match up to the SVX. I just need to think about what to do about top mounts and springs. I am hoping only slight modifications are needed because in real weight comparisons, my SVX weighed 3630 with me in it and the 04 STI weighed 3500 with driver. I'd rather replace my struts with an adjustable strut (like Tokico D-Spec) than coilover because the coilover ride quality just sucks imo. They are too firm for daily driving and I don't track my SVX.
p.s. I love the Tokico D-Specs. We have been driving around in them and they are awesome. thanx TiC. |

don't forget how the endlink attaches to the front strut. You CAN rework it though to make it attach to the control arm if you have a welder handy though. |
