i appreciate the effort you put into the writeup, and for sharing, but i would prefer to have a premade blanket solution. IMO it will provide a more polished product and provide better results. hence why i asked which size blanket will fit the vf52 turbo.

also the top mount i plan to use will be DIRECTLY over the turbo so i personally feel additional protection WILL be necessary.

see this pic:
ptp turbo blanket. they have one made for vf series turbos.heres mine.

For those who still have A/C, I had mine vacuumed and refilled properly (not the DIY method) and have noticed that my car is running much more smoothly. I'm having noticeable differences in my everyday running temps even with the A/C not in use.

Anybody try 3M High Temperature Aluminum Tape???

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...beNG0PRPD79Lgl

Wonder how it would compare to DEI cool tape. Would it make a good cheaper alternative?

How durable is this DEI tape. I know it's only been around a year or two, but how does it hold up for a daily driver?

I have never used the 3M stuff so I can't compare directly.

The DEi stuff has held up pretty good for me, It is still applied to the TMIC with very little damage or peeling. It has been on for almost 3 years now too, pretty good so far.

CM,

Do you guys sell T-bolt clamps alone? I'd like to add them to the things I'm ordering but can't find any on your site

Recently installed an SPT turbo heat shield over the stock shield. Also applied some DEI cool tape to the underside of the SPT shield and one thing I noticed is a slight ~1-2 improvement in MPG. The area right above the turbine seems cooler now as well at least not as scorching as it used to be. I want to say the heat soak seems less now as well. Didn't notice whether spool up is any better. I think the slight MPG improvement alone makes it worth the $60 for me.

What other things are good to wrap besides turbine, downpipe and intercooler? I want to be able to chill my bear in the engine bay.

Anyone with experience with a turbo chimney? Saw a post about one the other day and wondered if it worked or was more of a gimmick

^^ I had one long ago and it worked well. It only fit the standard WRX TMIC though. i'm not sure if someone makes one for larger TMIC's... maybe Subtle does?

I agree it worked real well, but when I went STI TMIC it does not fit. I have it in my garage and its for sale in the Tristate classifieds if you are interested.

I've got a V7 STI TMIC so it probably wouldn't help. Thanks for the info though.

Yeah the chimney will only work wit ha small TMIC, so it has room to direct it out of the vent.

You can can get a vented hood like we did, or cut some vents like one of the guys in here posted if you're feeling spry.

Wrapping your intake in the heat reflective tape can help as well.

For cooling you can get an intercooler sprayer, either water or N2o.

Does the heat wrap have any adverse effects? Could this cause heat to be trapped inside the turbo causing the oil temperature to be higher?

The oil gets pumped around and the water keeps the temps down to where it's supposed to be...

There will always be a debate on whether or not heat being held in will be bad or not, but personally, I'd rather have the heat held in then radiate all over the engine bay and affect all the surrounding parts.

It helps, especially when you have to sit for awhile at a light, etc.

Before you could really tell driving around the city or in traffic etc. when the TMIC got heatsoaked. With all the heat shielding it helps, it will never completely prevent heatsoak but it definitely helps keep it cooler longer.
