From what I read, the WRXs in japan also use single scroll EJ207s vs WRX WAGONS, that use EJ205s - could be wrong on this one tho, date code of the engine is 2005, but was in use in 2006, similar to my 2001 engine of my factory bugeye.

Engine specs:

9:1cr

TGVs

AVCS

Drive by Cable

Big port heads HT20s,

Install: What worked:

Used the JDM stock intake manifold - drive by cable

Cam and Crank sensors were both OK on jdm engine, did not change (this probably goes for everything 2002+, check for the black sensors, not red/orange)

Alternator

Power steering

Coils

JDM Engine harness 100% pin for pin ok

What to change:

AC compressor is junk, I should have just removed it, but the compressor hoses face the wrong way,

Engine sounds really healthy, seems to be ok puttering around town on her maiden voyage as we got a few things wrong on the initial install.. so it literally just came together last night!

USDM Bulkhead harness

JDM V7 ecu

JDM Engine harness

Mods to the engine include:

STI Dark Blue Top Feed Injectors (MAKE SURE TO LUBE UP ALL O-RINGS WITH VASALINE BEFORE INSTALL - ELSE YOU ARE LOOKING AT ANOTHER 2-3 HRS OF WORK AFTER THE ENGINE IS IN THE CAR )

VF48 - jm turbo, cheap..

Avo inlet

And also added a Wideband O2 by PLX systems.

This plus the Carberry ROM is a really potent combination in the hands of the right tuner that can understand all the parameters. Hang on to those 2002-2003 USDM wrx ecus and JDM ecus.

now im just looking for instructions on the AVCS wiring - the IA/iWire stuff is >$200 canadian shipped to me......... so im going to try and google... if anyone has clearer instructions on the pins to the black connector (driver side) to the e84 (ecu side) that would be great. most of what i found reuses the TGV and in canada I will be using my TGVs..

The 207 in the WRX you mention is pre-2002 with the V5/V6 207. Back then they were all single scroll.

As I mentioned there really is no V?? versions of the 205 as they were used in multiple platforms and have various changes even within one model year.

Now about yours specifically. What's the HT20 heads? I can't find any info about them and the only big port heads for any Subaru are well documented as the V7 and spec C heads having big ports. Even that depends on the market they were sold in as well.

I am guessing there is a difference between DBC throttle bodies on USDM EJ205 and JDM EJ205 with AVCS? I found a JDM EJ205 with AVCS but the throttle cable and pin is bent... was wondering if I could swap it with mine off of my USDM

Just swap the usdm throttle body, it is the same as the jdm.

What are the 2002-2005 EJ205 NON AVCS engines I see listed frequently on Ebay? They are not coil on plug and don't have AVCS.

They don't seem to fit into any of the categories in the original post, unless the seller is just wrong about the year of the vehicle they come from.

Out of curiosity, if one was being CHEAP, what is the likelihood of said ej205 being plug-n-play installed into an 05 STI? asking for a friend, Thanks!

Probably low, EJ255 would be a better bet for a cheaper engine into an STI and even then you'll likely have to use the STI intake manifold and harness

Are you sure they are JDM? If they are then they should be pre-2002

You should make sure passing state inspection will be no problem before you go forward with the conversion.
Look on the conversions page here on Nasioc, there are plenty of RS to wrx or STi conversions there. Talk to Iwire about harness merge, they can advise you based on what platform you decide to swap, there are many possibilities.

i feel like this will be a stupid question.

i have a 205 out of a forester, the shop swapped the usdm intake with the tgv's. been using the usdm ecu, found a jdm wrx ecu. My question is can i use the jdm ecu with the tgv's intact?

i still have the tgv from the forester manifold in the garage. wondering if i can get the jdm ecu to work without having to pull the manifold and swap the tgv's. call it laziness

I have a 2001 JDM Forester STI. It has an EJ205 without AVCS coil pack on manifold but offset from the centre. Drive by cable.

Same engine that was used in the JDM v5 and v6 WRX.

the jdm ecu will use the tgv fine.

octane requirements for the jdm ecu will be higher and you will also gain AVCS control
