I still want one.. but I just refuse to pay that much for it.

A reminder.. Scion does no-haggle pricing. The BRZ's invoice should be higher still (due to the extra content) which means the BRZ's MSRP is going to be much higher.

It's hard to buy a Civic for <$20k now. I doubt something that people actually want to buy would be in that price range.

Ummm.. yeah, actually.

There was talk, from Toyota and Subaru, about the car costing less than $20k back when we were only seeing spy shots of development mules.

There was also talk of it having 160-180hp and weighing 2500lbs as well.

The MSRP on the civic is $15.8k... and they aren't selling because they're crap. I'm sure you can pick one up for $14k tomorrow if you really want one.

no way. Under $20k for a car like that. It would put Civics and corollas out of sales.

I don't see a lot of people cross-shopping the Corolla and the FR-S.

.. and stealing Civic SI sales from Honda is precisely what they should be doing.

The BRZ has a ton of standard equipment that the FRS does not. After seeing this figure I'd bet the BRZ will be hard to get on the road for under 30K.

I think he's saying a 200hp Civic Si is over $20K so why wouldn't a 200hp RWD sports car be a bit more?

I'm pretty sure I read it was supposed to be priced around 20k as well. A work buddy of mine told me his friend put a deposit on a brz, and is paying 30k for it.

It's been known for a long time this was NOT going to be a sub-20K car.

I thought I made it clear with my post that the sub-$20k price was for a car with different specs very early in development.

It's about $3000 overpriced IMO. Unless it comes pretty well equiped.

Even if that's the case I would still rather have a cheaper stripper version.

You can get a Juke for $19,900 and that comes with AWD, or a Veloster for $18,000 (turbo is rumored at $21k-$22k).
Granted these are completely different cars, but noone except enthusiasts are going to know how different they are.

I so hope that we don't have another S2000 repeat. Another cool sports car that almost does what it should. In my opinion at that price 200hp is just embarrassing. People are going to say cool car, to bad it's so slow.

A used S2000 would be a much better buy. trolllolol

BRZ really doesn't have THAT much more than the FRS. Really just the standard NAV....i'm still expecting a little over 25 for the premium and maybe another 2k for the limited.

They do no-haggle just like Saturn did no-haggle. It's the same as working with any dealership/salesman.

lulwut? S2000 was a great car. If they only made a coupe version it would have been better, but the same could be said for the Miata.

Nav, HIDs and Subaru's claimed exclusivity.

It's going to be a niche car, no matter what. Hopefully it sells enough to justify continued production; only time will tell. It'll never be a high volume car. 200hp is plenty because the car is tiny, but that's the problem. What keeps cars like this in a small niche is their size.

I've seen a lot of people trying to compare the BRZ/FR-S to the Mustang V6, or to the Genesis Coupe. That's just silly talk. Those cars are in an entirely different class, they're significantly larger. I suspect a lot of the commentators haven't actually seen a BRZ in person yet. It looks great in pictures, and it makes me really sorta want one. Especially with the reviews. But the first time I saw it in person I realized it probably wouldn't be a great choice for my daily driver. It'd be like buying a Miata. Not gonna happen except as a third car.

Those aren't the people this car is made for. They can say whatever they want.

Those same people also hate Miatas, S2000s, etc. Those people miss driving some of the nicest platforms in the world.

Sucks to be them.

Interesting that the Miata has come up a couple of times - they start at $23.5k. Seems like one would definitely cross shop the two. The Subayota has more power, is a coupe rather than a convertible and has not been on the road for 20 years. However, the last fact may well steer some more sensible buyers away from the Subayota for a few years until the inevitable bugs are worked out.

Also, despite what everyone may think on this board, a significant number of shoppers will cross shop this thing with a Civic Si, which starts at $22.2 and has a real back seat. They will also cross shop other larger cars such as the Genesis and V6 Stang.

The target demographic is "affordable and fun to drive" and that means vastly different things to different people. Some will tend towards the sports car side of the equation (Miata) and some will tend towards the straight line speed (Stang/Genesis).
