Post Which tire... Bridgstone RE930 or Michelin Pilot XGT V4

Ok,
this is not for my car its for my bro. He has a 98 maxima, and he wants a good all season tire. he does not auto-x (not yet alteast..I am trying to get him to ) so thats really not to important. He just needs a good all around tire, and those are the only 2 that fit his car. the size is going to be 225 (or 215..dont remember) 60/15
THanks guys

sorry about the bridgestones, i just got the car. thats my excuse and im stickin to it!

well, if your gettin the XGT V4s for 80 bucks, thats not that bad. when i had to replace mine, i was quoted 130 a pop at NTB. i did a little auto-x, and the tires were not that great at all. they wore quickly, and overall i was not impressed with them after i put the 2 dunlops on the rear. the cars handling was greatly improved. i was quite suprised, because i though the michelins were suppost to be good tires.

i have no experience with the Bridgestones that you speak of. i though those were the ones that come on the Impreza i got my car a week and a half ago.

hope that cleared things up.

Civic Si comes with XGT V4 which is fairly crummy but the Pilot XGT V4 is a VERY different tire. I put a set on my old Man's SVX and they have been quite good.

However I would probably look into the Dunlop SP Sport 5000.

I agree with Pilot, the XGTV4 sucks much ass & the Pilot XGTV4 is supposed to be much better. & it seems like everybody's happy with the SP5000.

& I think the RE930 replaced the RE92.

both tires SUCK. the re930s come on the RS if in not mistaken, and the XGT V4s are VERY overpriced for what they are. i have the re930s on my RS, and they are ok i guess, but the XGTs were on my civic Si stock, and lemme tell you thouse things sucked out loud. i backed over some glass and had to replace the back 2, and i didnt have any cash so i had to get some dunlop sport series tires, and those things rocked compared to the Michelins. if you want good advice tell him to not get either one.

you making me question your review
The re 92 come on the RS, not the 930s.
The xgts aren't that expensive..I think they are at like 80 or 90 bux a piece.
What were your other complaints about the xgtS? THe glass thing does suck, but how about performance? Did u do any auto-xing or anything in them?
THanks

Are you sure about that tire size? That doesn't seem right for a '98 maxima. which model is it exactly? aftermarket rims?

The SE could have 215 something 17 tires, but the base models had as small as 205 65 15.

Thumbs up

I had the RE930 on my 1994 Acura Integra RS.
I bought them by choice, as replacement for an old mix-n-match that was on the car when I bought it. Stock size was 195/60 R14.

Overall it was a very good tire. Quiet, good in the rain, and decent grip. No summer or snow tire, but then again, that's obvious.

Miles better than the RE92, and light years beyond the Michelin XGT series.

I agree, I've had RE930, good all-around tire, it's not max-performance, but good. But it's no longer made, some people are selling off stock of it, but if you had a problem with one and needed to replae it in a year or two, you might not be able too. The closest current replacement for it is the RE910, which is similar in its dry performance, but much better in rain and even v. light snow use, it has tread pattern of the Bridgestone Formula 1 rain tire.

According to TireRack.com the Maxima SE came with 215/55/16, in that size there is basically nothing.

However if you go to 225/50 16 then there is everything. According ot the tire calculator the speedo will be 1.7% too fast with the 225/50/16s so at 101.7mph you'll actually be travelling at 100mph.

Anyway in all seaosn tires they have th BFgoodrich G-Force T/A KDWS, the Dunlop SP Sport 5000, the Michelin Pilot XGT V4, and the Yokohama AVS db.

If you go looking for summer rubber basically everything comes in that size.
