Found this diagram for the 07 WRX that backs up badmunky's claim.

It's from alldata so assuming it's correct it shows that there is a pressure sensor in the actual LH valve. I've compared the same diagram to the 06 WRX and it's not shown in the LH valve. So this suggest that it cannot be removed and must be kept similar to the 07 STI.

Yep. There's a note in Subaru's Diagnostic Procedure for DTC 2444 (SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PUMP STUCK ON), the LH Valve has the pressure sensor integrated.

I have a question...I'm getting the CEL above, and I was wondering if it was okay if I just pulled the relay off of the air pump and valves and clearing the CELs with a protune instead of physically removing the entire system?

The thought of removing the intake manifold to access one of the valves is not motivating me very much.

Well, not that you care, because in a later post you stated you've already done it, but:

WARNING: Federal law makes it illegal for ANYONE to tamper with, disconnect, remove or otherwise render inoperative ANY emissions-related control device. A violation may make you liable for up to a $2,500 fine.

The system ONLY works for about 90 seconds max when first started on a cold engine, and it's only for emissions purposes. It does nothing to increase/decrease horsepower. Do you really think removing 10 lbs of equipment from under your hood is going to improve the performance of your car that much? Really? To me, it's not worth the hassle or risk.

Yes, they do. I've also seen a car being pulled up onto a flatbed by a State Trooper for "illegal equipment". The car was impounded for having an inspection sticker and no cats. Guy was giving the dealer a hard time about his CEL for a P0420 code, and the dealer got tired of his attitude, so they dropped a dime on him.

Does anyone need some motivation to do this project? How about getting paid to?

I am in need of a pump and two valves for an '06 WRX

What you get - minus 10 pounds and plus some cash (tbd)
What I get - a weekend of frustration installing the thing.

Parts must be working when removed (no cels association with them)

Please PM me if you're interested

people have tried the '08 sti. I was recently told that the atmospheric sensor is in the bottom of the pump housing and not the driver's side solenoid body. I need to revisit the wiring diagrams now and inspect the parts from my engine to try to confirm this one way or the other. I still plan on deleting as much of mine as possible.

So what is the final verdict ??? 07 wrx just rip it all out n put the block off plates in??? Or. Leave the one valve hooked up n block off the other. N just get the cel turned off n everything is golden?

bumping this thread, have a question.

Is it ok to just leave the air pump in and just have the codes flashed out?? i'll be getting a protune map soon and having the tuner disable the codes regarding the airpump.

thanks

I tuned my CEL code out with an AP. There hasen't been any adverse effects after about 10k miles.

^^ You have an 06 WRX, he has an 07 STI. The airpump systems are slightly different.

I am not sure if this can happen, but can the black sensor at the top of the valve be taken out of the assembly on the 07 STI's? I have it plugged in and reading properly, but I know that it's doing nothing for the car at this point.
It's the assembly that accepts the purple connector not the air pump connector. This is the only piece that needs to stay for the car to properly read pressure.

For reference, its this:

Just for those wondering. I recently replaced my motor with a built lower end. While it was out of the car, I used the opportunity to remove the secondary air pump system. I purchased the delete kit from KS Tech and it worked great. I highly recommend it over more expensive alternatives.

I was suprised just how bulky the setup was when it was finally out. The removal cleaned up the engine bay a lot and gave a lot more room on the driver's side for plug acces and other things. I may even put a fuel filter and washer bottle there.

I also had a bunch of codes to turn off from both this and my TGV deletes. I think there were well over 14 total, but I don't recall for sure. My tuner was able to turn these off at the time of my protune and I have not had an issue since.

This is a good cheap modification if you are looking to gain a cleaner look in your engine bay. Doing it with the motor out is also a huge plus.

Hey, so I want to make sure that I know what I can remove from an 07 wrx:

remove:
air pump
driver's side valve (over starter)
tubing between valves and pump
tubing between valve and passenger's side valve
tubing to driver's side head

keep
passenger side valve. (under manifold)

Block off
passenger side valve input
driver's side head port

???s
are the kstech plates made to fit the driver's side head and passenger side valve?
What if you leave the valves? Do you still need the plates?

That I'm not sure about. I removed both valves. I'm pretty sure that the KS Tech deletes cover the holes in the heads, not the valves.

But, the guy who runs KS Tech is super nice and knowledgable and I'm sure he'd answer your questions if you called him up.

Do you guys think it would be good to have a block-off plate available for this passenger-side valve with the integral sensor?

Our plates definitely only cover the holes in the heads.

It looks like that plate is installed on the pass. solenoid valve, and that is not where it goes. It is designed to go on the hole in the cylinder head, so that's why it didn't fit. It's not "stupid" at all.

I am going to draw up an aluminum cover for that opening in the pass. side valve. It will be about 2 weeks before it is available.

I also think we are overdue for a how-to on this. Will work on that too.

Can somebody measure the size of the valve's pipe nipple shown in the pic below? It is the one pointing toward you in the pic.
