Question..

i've called tuner shops around my area ( IL ) and all recommend to have the car retune after deleting the air pump?

from my understanding, I just need to delete the codes from the AP software.

what car?

anyway, my car has been fine with deleted codes and some relays/fuses pulled - for about the last 7 years or so.

I can't imagine any tuning required.

search that code in this thread and on the 'Net - if that is the only code you have, maybe you just have a bad relay or sensor.

good idea to try an ECU reset first to see if it will clear and/or if it comes back.

weak battery/corroded grounds can sometimes cause spurious codes.

I've got the p2431 code.. can i get away with pulling fuse and deleting via AP? I'm in a 2013 STi sedan. FWIW, the code only shows up when i flash the stage 1+ sf 93 octane... i bought the car (from dealer) with a AEM cold air, and was unsure if it was tuned, so i removed the aem, installed a Cobb Sf intake/box, and AP.. I'm leery of removing the stage 1 tune, because i have the cobb SF intake. i don't have a stock intake to revert to.

any help/opinions would be appreciated..

A few days ago, I threw the P2444 on my 2011 WRX. It's stg 2 with a VF52 and AP. I feel like I've read this whole 46 page thread on the topic but I haven't seen a lot about the '11.

I've decided I'm going to pull the air pump and get block off plates. My question is do I need to get both the delete kit and the valve block off plate set from KStech, or is it one of the two.
http://www.kstech.biz/air-pump-delete-2/ (site I'm talking about)

Also, would you guys reccomend going to get a Protune or would it be cheaper to get the RaceTune from Cobb.

Thanks for any advice.

Default See if dealer is replacing the airbag even out of warranty.

Id check with the dealer if they are giving any free replacement airpumps.

I went in to get the airbag replaced at my local dealer and they had a TSB on replacing my airpump, im at 8 half years of ownership i tore the rusty thing out 3 years ago.

Ok I got a real stumper here for y'all. I did the delete about a month ago and the car was running fine. Recently put on a Cobb intake and tuned it with my AP and that cleared all my cel codes (normal) but if my car is cleared of cel codes it runs like straight garbage. Just jerks when I try to shift one gear into another as if the rpm gauge is off or something but once the cel comes back on all is good. Before the tune I just had 4 valve stuck closed codes after I did the delete and now after the tune and after it ran like garbage before the cel came back on I just get a p0410 code secondary air pump messed up pressure (can't remember what it says exactly but it's like that) so did I put one of the plates on wrong and it's leaking a little? Because the first time I did this I did have one on there loose and it made a pretty loud tick noise so I fixed it up and all was good until my recent upcoming... so question is if I delete my codes is the car just gonna run like crap like it did before cel clicked back on? Didn't pull any fuses after delete btw if anyone can help me on that. 2007 wrx sedan

Wondering if anyone has the Cobb racetuner program that can modify a Stage 2 OTS map for me with the codes for this secondary air pump deleted?

Yes, I removed the entire deal on my car. If I remember right it's around 10 pounds.

I managed to delete all the "stuck closed" codes for my 07 back in March and pull the fuses with good result.

Recently another CEL came up P1410 air pump switching valve stuck open. Maybe the air pump switching valve has deteriorated to open? If the air pump has not been on for 3 months (fuses pulled) and air injection valves were stuck closed, can I just delete P1410 now and call it done?

After a month of Air Pump deleted and code deleted, I don't feel any wrong with the car and drive as usual.

A re-tune is not required. The shutting off of the related codes is required.

Need help, I have an 06 WRX with 140k miles on it. I was getting the code for the airpump valve being stuck open. I have replaced both the Valves and ran the car. I now got a code again, P2444.

Any suggestions what could be causing this problems.

Relay being stuck open?
Air pump not running? (does this throw another code?)

I was going to look into deleting the pump because of the headache but couldn't figure out everything needed but the blocking plates?

Car is not tuned, has no tuning device like a cobb... What is my best plan here?

install the block-off plates and kill, or pay someone to kill, the 13-14 codes as outlined in multiple places in this thread.

take the plates and your car to a tuner - you will need to have your ECU reflashed anyway and I'm sure most tuners have dealt with this mod multiple times.

Or speak to the tuner you will be using if you are installing the plates yourself. If you don't have the ecu flashed, you will have the CEL on constantly and that could mask a true problem.

The best way is to put the block off plates on. The whole system is prone to rusting and malfunctioning. It will keep happening even after replacing the components.

You just need to remove the air pump and valves. Remove the relay, install the block off plates. Than if you can (or somone else) remove all the codes for the system.

Good to go after that, I did mine few years ago and haven't had 1 problem since.

Send me a pm if have any questions

So the airpump was deleted and the car tuned on the stock ECU and stock car, no AP.

400+ miles later I now have a P0172 running rich in bank 1. Could removing the airpump and maybe missing a step in the tune cause this? He also changed the closed loop/open loop on the car.

I'm going to check the spark plug gap to see what was put back in the car. I know I need to look up what the gap is before doing this but trying to see if any other reasons for this happening.

No it shouldn't.

The tune is only to remove check engine codes based on the system not being in place. There is no additional tuning required for this process. Running rich would lead to believe you have an air leak somewhere which could have been the result of the removal process. Check connections first, maybe even seafoam to see if you can spot the leak.

I just deleted the secondary air pump system that was in my 2006 WRX

its tricky, but do able if you are mechanically inclined and have the right tools. If you are not, I would suggest taking your car to a shop to either have them take yours out for you and retune, or have the shop find you a used system and replace the seized valves.

My code came on for secondary air pump system - valve stuck open or something like that

So I bought the block off plate kit, and set to work removing the entire system which required a lot of cutting, prying, and maneuvering parts out from under your intake manifold. the best way to do this job is if you can get the motor out of the car, but I didn't have the tools to do that. A pry bar is your friend in this project. look up one of the many DIY tutorials on this specific removal, that's how I did it. pay attention to leave one of the valves in place, so you can keep you BAT sensor plugged in

after I had the block off plates installed, the car ran great even without a tune and CEL still on

I recently had the car pro tuned on a dyno for stage 2 catless and to remove all the secondary air pump codes. 2 months later now and the car runs perfect. little louder the first minute of start up, but I'm catless

hmmm, didn't think the 06 had that sensor on the valve - I thought that was 07 ?

I do remember reading that only the STi's and 07 WRX's needed the BAT sensor plugged in, but the video tutorial I watched was a guy doing the removal on a 2006 wrx and he left one of the valves so the sensor could stay plugged in. I just followed what he did, reasoning that if the sensor didn't need to stay it wouldn't affect much. it will just hang out there. if I do need it, then glad I kept it and didn't touch it.

side notes of my removal-

be careful with your pry bar. I broke my intake manifold TGV sensor while prying out the air pump vavle under the intake manifold. luckily I found an oem sensor, slightly used at a junkyard. but it is a delicate sensor that you have to wind up and make sure its on right so your tgv valves open and shut. I should do TGV delete too but that may come later...

overall, I had my tuner ignore all secondary air pump codes, and I haven't had an issue. even when I did get the CEL for the seized valves, the car ran fine. just had no cruise control while the cel was on
