Brutal. Maybe I missed it, but how fast was than ton and a half of steel going when it smoked the deer?

Reminds me of when I clipped a bear with my Mazda3. The damage was pretty light (no 'swing-around' for those things) and proven to insurance by the purple, berry-liscious bear crap on my front wheel. No idea what happened to the animal ... I had a transport truck right behind me on a 2-lane highway during winter conditions so just kept going along until there was space to pull over and inspect the damage.

Those photos are spooky. Glad you came out of it OK.

Back when I was traveling across the country I stopped at a motel in one of many, many small towns along the highway. At the front desk the owners kept a photo album of police accident photos of moose, deer and bear collisions. The one that stuck most in my mind was of a bull moose (over a half ton) spitted right through a Suzuki Swift ... head sticking out the rear window; legs sprawled out the windshield. Great marketing tool for convincing people to stop for the night ...

I was only going 65 ... had just flipped the cruise on after getting back onto the highway after filling up with gas.

Haha it always happens right after you get gas too. Same thing happened to me to. And its rough seeing your car half torn down. But at least they are working on it... mine took 2-3 months for them to finish.

I don't think they've touched it since tearing it down like that, and who knows how much work they'll put into it this week since it's generally a "short" week for a lot of people.

I'm guessing not until mid-December!

Edit: And yeah, having it happen right after filling up was an extra blow!

So for anyone who has had similar experiences with a new car: How does the dealership treat warranty claims? Should I be worried (even though the car is being repaired 100% at a dealership's shop)?

.....good question. I would be worried about the same thing. You obviously can't blame them for not covering something down the road that fails due to the accident but on the other hand, what will stop them from blaming that failure on the accident regardless?

Also, it would be in Subaru's hands down the road if something fails, wouldn't it? Not like I'd go to the insurance company if something fails early in 15,000 miles. Or am I missing what you're implying?

I think it is a rather large gray area. My opinion is that my insurance company is paying roughly $12,000 to bring this car up to par with being "new" again - so if something fails early within the warranty period, how is it my fault for not initially replacing it after the accident with OEM parts by a Subaru inspector/mechanic?

Who knows - perhaps I am worrying too much. The whole point to spending more on a brand new car for me was to have a few years of "no worries" when it comes to potential issues.

You warranty is still in tact, at least thats what i've been told.

My car is apparently ready to be picked up (front end accident $4k damage) and it was in the shop since 11/2. I hope for your sake that the 3-4 week estimate is right. With that amount of damage I would plan on not having the car until around the pre-Christmas time.

I have a feeling it would be quite the hit at this point - enough of one where I would end up paying for an STi and ending up with a WRX.

I still owe quite a bit on it, but not an unreasonable amount.

I am in a similar situation and have not even considered trading in the car. I am confident with the job/shop I took the car too and upon picking it up I plan on it being as good if not better than before.

Good to know!

They have had it for 2 weeks now waiting on setting with insurance and parts. I don't expect them to even start opening boxes of parts until next Monday.

I guess I would rather have them take their time with an extra week and have everything look great.... Until then, FWD Hybrid SUV in the snow = useless!

i hit a deer last year and it was actually pretty good deal for me.. I had some front end damage before hitting the deer and then i smakced a deer in the exact same spot of the car. (lucked out with blood and hair everywhere so they didnt think anything was faked.

So I got everything repaired on the car... even a set of new rims

My parents were t-boned by a jacka** who ran a red light going 50mph (which happened right in front of me too!). The car was basically $1500 away from being totaled, and took 2 months to fix. Over 3 years later they haven't had any issues with the work, and you can't even tell it had been hit. Even the dealership, who knew about the wreck, couldn't even tell.

Hope everything turns out alright for you. Damn those deers!

Did the deer have insurance? Lol bucks do the most damage and it looks like you hit a doe. I hope you get it back to its original state!

We hit a deer last week in our Toyota and luckily our insurance rate wasn't affected. Insurance company is even paying for cost in getting 3M clear bra installed.
