Quick VF39 + EJ205 Question
About to get a brand new EJ205. I'm wondering how reliable a vf39, Sti pinks, walbro fuel pump, and an Sti intercooler would be with an EJ205? I havent found anything really related to reliability. I just dont want to ruin a new engine after having to pay for it. Car would receive a road tune after mods are in.

Will be as reliable as the person tuning it... How hard they push the setup and also depends on how aggressive you drive the car.
I have a vf43 on my ej205 and the setup has 20k miles with no issues at 21psi with the colder temp tuned to 20psi----- output was 301whp/303wtq |

It's all in the tune, that is where you want to spend your money.

I had a new EJ205 shortblock from subaru, bolted up 04' WRX shimless bucket heads, and put a VF-39 with no shaftplay on it with deatschworks 565cc injectors and a walbro 255 (same flowrate as the "Pinks"), it's lasted 30k with no shortblock related problems, mostly just maintenance stuff and things that break that I caused from working on it and it's still running strong

If ur driving style does not change u wont see a measurable difference. W more power im sure one tends to use it more. So u will likely see less mpg when romping on it. I still got 22-24 mpg

A well set up 2.0 is verry under rated IMHO
They are tough sons of Biatches when done right and looked after - OP run it and enjoy it, good for you for not going the hybrid route You got some solid tuners in your area, your engine can take way more then the 39 can give when done right. |

To the Op I've got 30k on my VF43 @ 20psi and it has been abused but taken care of with no problems what so ever. Good street combo for a daily driven car with moderate power. I get 26/30 (I never go below 3/4 tank) for mpg and only run Shell, BP, and Sunoco 93 fuel. The key to mpg is keeping you alignment good, maintenance done, and air pressure where you want it. Getting on

There is either something wrong with your tune/ bad tune, or you drive like a jackass. I think it's your tune though since you said you drive normal. |

My vf isn't too much bigger but doesn't spool as quick as a tdo4... Takes longer to boost by a few hundred rpm and that's where cruise territory is ~3000rpm-~3900rpm hence the better gas mileage. |

This is very interesting. A larger turbo which does not spool up as readily actually gives better fuel economy because it is easier to not be on boost. What about running a higher compression JDM ej205 ? would this improve the off boost fuel economy while limiting the amount of boost you can run ? |

I find the jdm ej205 AVCS stage 2 tuned motors I’ve had were more fuel hungry than the USDM no AVCS counterparts

Interesting. I was getting 30mpg highway/26 city when I had a JDM 205 and it had a VF34, STi injectors and whole bunch of other mods done. Now my 207 w/1050 injectors and a 20g is only getting 25mpg highway/20city. Both using AVCS. |

Quick VF39 + EJ205 Question
My first jdm AVCS ej205 engine had a td04L and a genetic stage 2 setup with a 3 port boost controller, stock WRX 440cc injectors, Walbro fuel pump. My current engine is setup just like the first one was but now I have the slightly larger td04HL. They burn a little more fuel than the 2 USDM ej205 engines I’ve had before. The USDM engines were running genetic Cobb stage 2 maps with stock boost controller. I think the custom tune on the jdm motors with 3 port boost controllers are more aggressive and account for how much more fuel is being consumed
