Default open down pipe? any problems?

I thought about running open down pipe for a weekend just to see how it would make the car run. If everything goes ok, next time I go to the track I will run open DP. Any1 think this is a good/bad idea? btw I have F.A.T. stg 3 turbo kit running 4 psi, soon to be 4.8-5 psi.

the only thing I can think of is just be carefull and dont run it to long at a time...lots a lot of heat..could melt the bottom of your car.

yea, I thought about getting some thermo wrap and wrapping everything around the area where it would be really hot. I am not sure how well that would work though. It might be easier to remove the exhaust from the cat and just run it w/ nothing after cat. There is already heatshield stuff there so it probably wouldn't be as much of a problem. I am not sure if it would do much for performance though.

I thought about that at work today. I may look around for a pipe that will fit.

I've run like that a few times when I didn't have the time to finish my exhaust. Its loud. Obscenely loud. And the fumes get you when you're at a stand-still. But I wouldn't worry about heat, the pipes get no-more hot than usual, and the air seems to dissapate the exhaust well enough.

But watch out for the sound police...only time I've ever been bothered was with an open downpipe - and I live in the land of big glasspack pickup trucks.

Didn't feel any gain in performance though, but on a stock WRX turbo and a 2.2 spool has never been a problem.
