Default Shifter issue FA20DIT

Been awhile since I've posted, I've since sold my 2003 Bugeye and have owned a 2018 FA20 for awhile now.

So today on my lunch break I had to back out into the street fast and throw it in first and go, problem is I throw into first and actually was in third. Pulled into a gas station and I have to force it left more to get into first and going into second I have to keep force to the left. Other than that I don't feel any slip in tranny and runs fine ( no noise or anything when in first and second). What did I bend or break? My shifter boot even slid off my reverse lockout. It has the stock shifter and from what I was told also a perrin shift stop. Any help is appreciated. I was going to order a boomba short shifter but not sure if the shifter itself is the issue (want one either way) I tried searching Google to see if anyone else had this happen to them but I just get a lot of people talking about the sloppy stock shifter. Any and all help is appreciated to get me pointed in the right direction, thanks!!

Sounds like your shift stop got loose and needs to be readjusted/tightened.

You should set it up where 1st and 2nd gates are not hard to get into but tight enough to not go past them like the shifter was without a shift stop.

Take off the shift boot and see what is going on under there. It should be easy to tell.

I just went out and pulled the shift boot off, very thankful it wasn't something worse. It wasn't my shift stop but when you have a pin backed out and threads exposed it won't allow the shifter to move over properly. I found the nut and washer that fell and was surprised it wasn't a lock nut or lock washer on it. I took a magnet tool and grabbed them so I'm going to check size and grab a nylon lock nut from work to put on it so it doesn't back out again. Thanks for the reply, I was nervous about looking in there and find nothing wrong but was easy enough to pull shift boot up to inspect. Once I pushed pin back in shifter moved normally.

Those nuts (and the washers behind them) are removed and replaced in the process of installing the shift stop. I think they may have some loctite on them from the factory, but in any case it's a very good idea to put a drop of blue loctite on them so this doesn't happen. I did an inspection on mine not long after installing a shift stop and I found those nuts getting loose so I loctited them at that time.
An important note, do NOT over-tighten those nuts or the threads will snap off and you'll have a bigger problem. Just snug and let the loctite do its job.

Awesome, thanks for the tip! Should I put the factory washer and nut with loctite back on? I'm wondering if using factory washer plus a nylon lock nut along with blue loctite would be better?

Use the factory parts if you have them. If you use a nylock nut instead it shouldn't need loctite, the nylon thread accomplishes the same thing.
