OVERLAND04 | 2011 WRX

I'm writing this journal as a place for myself and other members to keep up with my passion of modifying and doing install write-ups. I've always loved to help others so almost all of my mods will have links to my write-ups.
I live in Mid-Coast Maine and I have no desire to RallyX, Drag, AutoX, or even drive like a moron on the street, I don't know why I mod my car, I guess because it's fun and I like to know that I can go fast and look great too.
I live an hour from any highway, there is no E85, not even 93 octane here... No tuners, and no speed shops. I have the internet, UPS and a passion for cars.

Yes, I do feel for a daily driver the spring/strut combo would have been better but after getting used to the Stance's I couldn't imagine not having them.
I ride mostly on the softest setting and they still are amazing and in controll. I still have a full travel in suspension yet sit an inch and a half lower. Plus if I had to send one out for repair, within 40 minutes I can have the stock suspension back in.

So for a couple hundred dollars more, I would say that I love the Stance's and I think it was a smart choice over Springs and Shocks.
Thanks for the feed back. I completely agree with the fact that swapping factory back in is easy. I too also live about 1.5hr away from any major city and my drive is all highway. The roads around here can be pretty harsh and that's my only concern, but I'm not wanting to just swap springs if it means blowing struts.

Thanks again, and great write-up's!

Wheels, wheels, wheels....
Will I ever be able to choose just one set that I like?!?

Since I won't be able to put anything nice on the outside of my car till mid to late April, I'm just starting to look at the type of wheels to put on the car for the summer.

I don't mind rolling my rears, especially because I like the way the car sits and I don't want to raise it to stock height just to fit a 18x9.5 with a 275 tire... Useless to me!

At the moment my ideal setup would be a 18x9 with a 255 in Bronze. The problem is, I have not been able to find a Rota that I like in Bronze...

Here are the runner-ups:

Number 1 - Rota G-force 18x9 5x100 Gunmetal 35mm offset

Number 2 - Rota G-force 18x9 5x100 Gold 35mm offset

Both of these are about $1900 shipped. I feel it's a great price and wheel for a Daily Driver... Yes, I could get "real" wheels like Advan's or Rays's but I just can't justify spending minimally twice as much for the same look on a wheel that would never see a track or cars show, make sense?

I hate having to find wheels...

Varrstoens... Same exact look as the TE-37's but a third of the cost... Take a look at my build thread for reference although you may want to do the 2.2.2 version... They seem to clear the brembo/bigger break set ups better... I'm on the 2.2.1's although I had to run a much more aggressive offset to clear my brakes...

Car looks great though man keep it up!

Hey Guys, I posted a group buy on the ROTA's if anyone else is interested.

I guess the Bronze version of the G-Force's is a special order so I need two more people to go in with me. Any takers?

Here is the post...

1ds Mark III!

is the clock relocated to the cig tray? i like that clock location.

The G-forces are no where near as sexy as the volks, but i hope you find other takers so you get them in the color you want. white and bronze always looks good.

Nice eye on the clock! Yeah I couldn't live without that thing so I extended the harness from the top of the dash to the lower tray under the cigarette lighter. It fits really well.

Also good eye on my MarkIII. It's up for sale if you know anyone interested!

The other issue besides the price of the Volks is that for some reason every picture I see of them, they all look like they have a polished lip for some reason. It's just not the look I was going for, even in the picture above. I keep trying to convince myself that I like them because their Volks, I've wanted a pair since the late 90's but If I don't love them, there not for me...

I just ordered a little pinstriping to do the mod to the front grill. I've always like the look of it and it's a simple mod to add and if I get sick of it, I just peel it off.

I'll tackle this on Friday or Saturday.

Thoughts?

Here is the stuff, I got it from Amazon for $5.00

Here is the look I'm going for. It's not my car but it should look similar.

Just putting it on record that I made my first appointment for a Pro Tune today!!
I'm heading down 6 hours to Bethel Connecticut to EFI Logics and they will be tuning some mods that I will be adding soon.
My appointment is not till Feb 10th so I still have a couple weeks but I'm so excited to put some numbers down that I had to write it!

Yes!! Chris is a great guy, and and even better tuner. Everyone there is very friendly and will take great care of you, in my opinion, there is no other shop in the area that comes close to them in professionalism, skill, and customer care. You will be very pleased with your car, the tune will be worth every penny and the 12 hour round trip i can assure you that.

Great video and nice work! For wheels, have you looked at the Advan RS? I would suggest those. Love the TE37 though.

I have looked at them but I'd be limited to a 18x8.5 48mm offset. I know it's a small difference but for a total of around $3800 for a set, I think I would rather get the "cheaper" wheels and have the same look. There is also just a little less worry about bending or curbing a $250 wheel then a $700 one. Being a Daily Driver has its faults...

The Work wheels are a close second, I really like the new Emotion CR Ultimate wheels in Bronze. The problem is that all the pictures of the wheels that look really good (wide+concave) are not in 5x100.

Here is look I like by them but I just can't get for the WRX 5x100

Saturday Oil change!!

This was my first oil change on the subie and it was as simple as could be...
I just hit 6000mi during the week and I felt it was a good time to change the oil before I go to the tuner in a couple weeks.

Here is my oil of choice, I don't want to ge into the oil debate so please hold your remarks if possible...

Also, a little video from the ride this morning to warm up the oil before the change.
Enjoy!
