Default Tanacross 2013 May 25-26

Reserving the thread now but we got the motor home on reservation already and was super cheap after pricing around 440 bucks for a 30' no mileage or towing fees from the 24 and return on the 27. So looks like we going and i'll tow the evo up after all through ABC motor home super nice gal there to name was Cindy.
are you getting ready?

OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION

For those of you who are unfamiliar, here are a few pertinent details:

* Yes, there is real road racing in Alaska!
* There will be both wheel-to-wheel road racing and single car time trials at this event.
* Wheel-to-wheel cars must be actual caged race cars and pass a rigorous tech inspection. Driver gear (racing suit, helmet) is also inspected at this time.
* Wheel to wheel classes include Improved Touring, GTU, GTO, GTX, and Legends.
* Time trial cars can be regular street cars, as long as they are in good working order. Drivers must wear helmets and long pants/sleeves, but no special safety equipment is required.
* No experience is necessary to drive in this event—coaching is available for both time trial and wheel-to-wheel drivers.
* Free camping is available on-site and other, more luxurious, forms of lodging are available in Tok (about 10 miles away).
* Feasting and other forms of merry making are encouraged, but not necessarily required. This is a family-friendly environment and not an all out party—BYOB and something for the Saturday potluck dinner.
* While we would like to see everyone compete, we do also need volunteers to work the track. If you are a spectator, a corner station is definitely the best seat in the house from which to watch the races.
* Volunteers will also be eligible to go on ride-alongs in either time trial cars or wheel-to-wheel cars (with proper safety gear).
* Pre-race tech inspection for wheel-to-wheel cars will be held at a local shop. Location, date, and time TBA–watch our website and this thread for details. Please plan to attend this tech inspection or be prepared to pay an additional fee of $50 for inspection at Tanacross.
* Don't build a race car without first checking with the club for rules, regulations and advice.
* Registered users of the site do not see these ads.

Requested off work, can't wait to see what all the fuss is about. We'll probably just sleep in my car, hatch FTW!

Yup, we be getting ready. I completed the red car, which was the most important item, still have some tweaking/gremlins to sort out but yeah, shes running. Item #1 on my list can be crossed off. Haha. Now just need the snow to melt to dig out the camper/tow vehicle to fix a couple things and get newer tires put on it.

I have an empty seat in the truck and also will let whoever comes with can run my car. Just ask you cover your food and bring whatever else you'll need (tent, sleeping bag, etc)... oh and take pictures, cause I suck at doing that.

The fun you can have up there (what wheel to wheel racing, do some solo high speed time trials, camping, pot luck, drinking, hanging with friends, making new friends) more than makes up for the driving - plus it's a nice scenic drive and fun with other folks.

I don't think the drive is far, though I drive trucks all over the state so I guess it's subjective. It's only about 550 miles round trip, maybe $100 worth of fuel in a car.

It's funny to me that many of you guys will go on 100 mile "cruises" and don't think anything of it but a drive out to Wasilla or to Tanacross is too far

As much as I'd like to attend eventually if I could get the time off from work, there is a significant difference between the two. 2 hours worth of driving near the most populated areas in the state vs nearly 12 hours(Round trip) to the middle of nowhere is hardly comparable. Tanacross is 600 miles round trip.

So not trying to knock on tanacross, but that comment is like.... what...

Makes sense to me.

Took us 4.5hrs each way last year, it's about 290 miles.

Shaggie and I made it from Anchorage (dowling/old seward) to Tok intersection in 4 hours flat one time, included stop at Starbucks in Palmer Fred Meyer, and stop in Glen Allen.
