Also, here is another one of the car in the same position, but with different settings/pp. I'm not sure why the ISO got turned up to 800 on it...haha.

What's funny is that what I'd suggest to improve the photo, you seemed to do by accident in the second one. With your 50mm, you should be able to use a wide aperture no problem and you can see that the blurry background helps make the car stand out from the background. Combine that with ISO 200 and I think you'll be much better off. Next time though, try to pick a location that doesn't have quite as many distractions

Generally, I'd like to keep this thread specific to automotive photos, but your photos is composed pretty well. The glare on the left side really kills it though...my eyes were drawn to that immediately.

I never leave home without my circular polarizer, and it should ALWAYS be in your camera bag. The only excuse not to have one is if you have a point and shoot camera that doesn’t support one.

I had read that, but I still don't know what it is. I'd imagine it attaches to the camera somehow? I'll google it.

Edit: Googled it, read about it, makes sense.

Yeah, it's a filter that attaches to the end of your lens. You can then rotate the filter in order to remove reflections. You just rotate it to where you see through your eyepiece that the reflections are gone

Thanks for the feedback! I'm new to seattle so I don't really know any good places to shoot. These were shot at Carkeek park.

Welcome to the area! Carkeek is kind of a sucky spot for auto photos...tried it once, but it was just too busy and there wasn't enough nice background. I would try the Alki Boat Launch (always pretty decent) or Golden Gardens if you're looking for some water behind you.

I've been meaning to go to Alki but I've been kinda busy lately. And I've been to Golden Gardens two times for those big NWN meets, but that was before I had my DSLR. I'm gonna try to go to one/both of them here soon. Do you know of any other good spots in the north Seattle/Shoreline area?

I shoot at Magnuson Park quite a bit since it's only about 5 min from my house and they have a ton of good spots, so it doesn't always look the same. Other than that though, there aren't really many good spots in the North Seattle/Shoreline area for car photos with a nice, watery background.

I just looked Magnuson up on Google Maps and it's pretty close to my place, I think I'll go check it out tomorrow morning! Also, do you know of any good parking lots or neat buildings up here that make good backgrounds?

EDIT: So I made it out to Magnuson this morning, but I woke up a little late so I didn't get there until around 10:00 ish. Apparently there was some huge marathon today so most of the parking lots were really full.. So, again I couldn't take all the shots I wanted. But this was probably the best picture I was able to get before the horrid 12:00 sun (even though 10:00 sun isn't much better). I accidentally shot it with the visor down and with two trees poking out of the top.. But other than that what do you think?

WTF?! Didn't see this until today.....

I'm just bummed I didn't get to come over. LOL

Something a little different in post, tried to fit the vintage feel of the car. I also was experimenting with wide angle panning which is fun - a much different perspective when you're close up. What do you guys think?

Edit: It's better at a higher resolution, click here. It's actually raining in the shot and you can see some drops above his head.

hi res is much better, i agree on that. i like the style of vintage edit. but that car must have been traveling quite slow. (assuming turning into cars and coffee parking lot?) i think it needs a little more panning motion to complete the feel. did you snap any slower than 1/80th?

Yep, he was coming into the parking lot and he was slowing down quite a bit at that point. I was shooting at 1/80 with a lot of good results for the cars pulling out of the lot and flooring it down the street. So I zoomed way out and shot at the same speed when I saw this guy coming my way.

Tough exposure given the time of day, but you did all right. I'd say the car is just a little too close to the bottom right edges, but what really stands out is that your wheels are almost totally blown out and the trees in the background look very artificial as the sky was darkened in post processing.
