Default hate working behind people. 01 gc8 6 spd

ok, so i'm sure people talk about this all the time because so many people want to do a 6 speed swap.
i just recently bought a 01 GC8 that already had a 6 speed in it. Have a pretty good idea that the trans came out of a 04 sti.
the other day, i broke the rear driver's side axle, so i took the axle out, but the problem is ordering a new one. i called the dealer asking for a 04 sti rear drivers side axle and was told there's two different kind for that year, which i had no clue about because i never looked that hard into it. unfortunately, i have no clue how to tell what rear diff is on the car so i don't know which axle to order.
the bottom of the rear diff was hard to read but, i think it said 1ND1021 11B. but i'm not sure as it had surface rust on it.. i honestly had no idea. i just had the dealership order me a factory rs axle, gave the last 8 of my vin and just hope it'll work.
i later asked the previous owner if he knew about it. all he told me was "Rear diff is a wrx case with Forrester chunk. Hope that helps."
i am guessing he didn't do the swap based on him not being able to tell me.
however, you would think he only altered the internals on the rear diff in order to be able to keep the factory axles and hubs.
is there anyone who has done something similar or any other reason why someone would mod a rear diff?
i also have no clue what he was talking about when he said "chunk"
i could just keep attempting different axles, but that might take forever, and idk how the dealrship would feel about continuous returns of 500 dollar axles. lol
