To go stage 1 or not to go stage 1
Hey guys, I have a 2018 WRX and I am about to hit 7k miles. I am well aware how ass the stock tune is, I have heard it is because of how it leans out in the higher RPM range for emissions. While the extra pulling power, getting rid of the repulsive rev-hang, and better drivability what with throttle response changes are nice I am also concerned about the longevity of the engine. What have your experiences been on stage 1? I am thinking about going for the MAPerformance tune in the coming months for all the reasons listed but I am concerned about having issues and being refused warranty because of the tune. I wouldn't be able to afford something catastrophic so I would like to learn from your guys' experiences, any workarounds or advice? Thanks.

You have nothing to worry about reliability wise from a stage 1 tune. I ran maps for 10k+ miles before I started modding. I loved it but see which tune (cobb vs map) runs best on your car and stick with it.

That might be true but if I do have an issue whether or not the tune has anything to do with it could i get away with a flash to stock and tell them i unplugged the battery and that's why the ECU is reset?

If you haven't even flashed anything and you're already planning how to commit warranty fraud then modding a car under warranty is not for you.

I have an 18, went Cobb stage 1 (91) at 1,000 miles. Have almost 6K now and makes it nicer to drive. I wasn't t concerned about HP just wanted a smoother throttle mostly. MPGs seem to have gone up a little too.

I flashed mine at the 500 mile mark, and also noticed an increase in MPG, I have achieved 30-31 mpg.

Depends if you're rich and/or care about your warranty.

if you flash a non Subaru tune on your car, and it blows up, and you take it back to Subaru to get warranty repair you are the reason Subaru fights warranty claims for legitimate problems on WRX/STi cars. |

Exactly! You have to pay to play. I already have 10k set aside for a new motor, turbo, full setup. Just in case, and I only have 2k miles on my new car as of right now.
