The conversion is a 2009 WRX engine/ transmission into a 1973 VW Super Beetle. Yeah, I know it's been down many times before, but this one is different - trust me. The end product will be the ultimate sleeper VW (my version) street legal drag car.

I'm about 9 months into the project and pretty close to getting it running.
I have about 1,000 pictures of ever detail of the build. I will post a few to get caught up, but if you have any questions about any detail, I probably have pictures.

Part 1 of the project is to do the conversion. Part 2 is to restore the exterior/ interior of the Beetle back to it's original "like new" condition.

I fabricate or build everything I can rather than buy it. Here's some pics of the header I built last week. It's equal length (within 3/8" of an inch) with 1-5/8"x .063" wall primary tubes and 1-7/8"x .63" wall up-pipe. The material is 321 stainless steel that is either fusion welded or uses 347 filler rod. It's all been back purged.

After the turbo, the exhaust has to bend around over the top of the motor and then down. Because I narrowed the torsion housing to fit 275 x 15" tires under stock fenders, there was no other place to run the exhaust. It's made of 2.75" x 063" wall 304 stainless.

The trans was pushed 4" forward past the torsion tube.

Do you have an Instagram or Imgur or something like that with all the pictures?

Looks like it's just a WRX radiator, the way the upper tank has that raised section with the fill neck on one end and the upper hose connection on the other.

Any updates on this?

I have an EJ205 in a Thing. Curious to see how you do the plumbing.

Cool stuff.
Noob question on builds like this:
How do you solve the drive line rotation problem? IE: needs to spin backwards instead of forwards? And all of the internals are engineered for spinning "the wrong way" under load.

The Subaru engine spins the same way as the Vw engine so that's why these are perfect for these conversions. The only difference is that if you want to run a Subaru gearbox. Then you have to run a reversed ring and pinion from http://www.subarugears.com/

Realy nice build. QQ's - Are you sticking with the stock height oil pan, what's your ECU solution, and what are you doing for the vehicle harness? Instagram/forum posts elsewhere?
Looking forward to more detail.
