Default Difference between 08+ Impreza 2.5i/WRX/STi suspension

The obvious differences are the 2.5i and WRX are 5x100 and the STi is 5x114 so the front struts have a different mounting geometry that prevent them from being swappable. and there are differences in dampening and spring/ride height, but what else is different about the physical geometry?

Was there a change in spring design (top or bottom perch) somewhere along 08-12?
Was there a change in rear strut mounting geometry?
What prevents (if anything) STi springs from going on WRX struts?

I'm curious so I know how swappable these parts are between years. I would love firsthand evidence with pictures if possible. thank you!

thanks, thats useful for spring rates.
specifically i'm looking for fitment differences, like what springs are shaped/fit like other springs, which tophats are similar and which arent, etc. i feel as though I may have to compile it all myself...

not sure why they are listing the 09+ WRX and 08-10 sti spring rates as being different. they are the same. 1lb difference? really? lol

and 09+ and 11+ WRX springs are the same. but do differ from the STi springs in terms of size.

in what way are they different in size? diameter of the overall spring (like the diameter of the spring perch)? or diameter of the spring's bar (thickness of the metal)? or height/length of the springs?

spring height. not diameter.

Default Epic Engineering Bump stops on Koni inserts?

Technical question. Does anyone know if there is any difference in the strut piston diameter between the wrx and sti? I just picked up a set of Koni inserts for my 08 wrx and was looking at giving the Epic engineering short bump stops a shot but they are only for the STI. I could not get a straight answer from either EPIC or KONI.

Yes the piston diameters are different. The STi are roughly 1.5-2.0 times the diameter of the WRX.

I've fitted the STi front struts/springs to the 08 WRX, the car handles brilliantly now, but the ride is awful over ruts in the road. How do the 09+ WRX guys find the ride?, as the spring rates/top hats are the same as the STi. Its so stiff the body flexes and the dash creaks now, even with a strut brace. I don't know how the 09 wrx/sti damper ratings differ as its been posted that the 08/09 are not much different, but I can't believe these would cope with those spring rates.

I'll subscribe to this, I have the same questions.
I have a 2008 2.5i and it desparately needs some handling help. I don't think I want to do coilovers. I'm thinking spring/struts from WRX, but sounds like the RCE yellows seem pretty good.

I believe that you can swap anything 08-13 Impreza/WRX around, and for STi you can swap the rears as well, but the fronts have a wider bolt spacing at the strut.

serious question: anyone knows or if someone has take offs and could take measurements
aside spring rates and top hats what's the difference between 08+ WRX and STi REAR SHOCKS?
mainly in dimensions: length extended/contracted and body outer diameter.
as for FRONT struts: what's the outer body diameter and also extended/collapsed lenght?
I need the info for my stage rally car project and it's not a subie.
Impreza stage rally car was sold couple weeks ago. that's why
Thanks in advance!

thanks. there's nothing about the suspension travel or strut diameter or any other dimensions
appreciate Your help tho!
i'm building Mini Cooper S JCW and noone makes gravel spec's suspension for them.
and i know some guy in Costa-Rica used 2008 and 2013 shocks/struts combo for his rally car. i'm pretty sure i can make fronts off 1998 JDM STi work but not sure if rears off newer STi's would worth using in terms of travel and height

Couldn't you just pull the top hat off of the standard/WRX suspension and put it on the STi front suspension? That's what you have to do to get rear Forester struts to work for lifting your car if you don't want to drill new holes.
