It could also be the wires from the green connectors to the ecu. Personally I would rather replace the tactrix cable then pull apart the dash to replace some wires.

true, hopefully its not a wiring, but rather a software issue.

well, if it's a software issue, you can do what I did and reinstall all software and drivers and replace the ecu. After all of that though, mine still didn't work

testing it with another tactrix cable was the last thing I could do before I started replacing the wiring.

Arrrrrrrrgh. I have this exact problem. Everything Chris says is happening to me too. I have an original v1.0 OpenPort, and I've never gotten around to using it until today.

From reading through the posts, it looks like there is some probability my cable is toast. That makes me .

Mine is an 02 WRX (early build date). I can datalog with the cable using RomRaider, but ECU reading always fails. I've tried every suggestion posted on every thread on NASIOC, RomRaider, openecu.org, and God knows where else on teh internets. I've never tried a write. I have one more laptop I can try tomorrow, but I predict that will fail as well.

I may just have to suck it up and buy a new v1.3.

Just get a version 1.2. it's $20 cheaper. that's what I'll be getting when I get around to buying one.

I had a Tactrix cable go bad on me too. In fact, it became a bit flaky and then it came apart at the seam when I went to unplug it form the OBD2 port. The end of the plug stuck inside the OBD2 port, and the rest came out in my hand. I ordered a new one, which works fine. Then I futzed theold one back together (it just unplugged from the circuit board inside the plasting plug and the two plug halves came apart). The old one works fine now too. I just made sure the tiny pins were properly aligned, plugged the two halves together and put a few drops of superglue in the seams to hold it securely.
