I'm 'happy' with my sub-$500 Vizio 55" 4K tv.

No. Not really, as it'll be tone mapped down to SDR.

haha, no its not in best buy mode. He's running standard or movie most of the time. Just perplexing since even if I have my Vizio in a preset its still leagues better on some media. Ive never had grain issues.

My Pixel XL can do the HDR and it looks amazing. It only does 1440p though, so I'm looking forward to watching that on the new tv.

I watched that simultaneously on my Pixel XL @ 1440p and on my 40" tv @ 1080p (connected to my htpc*). Considering I'm such an eye candy whore while gaming, I couldn't discern a difference between the two -- both looked great. I'm sure I'd be blown away on a huge 4k hdr tv, but that doesn't change the fact that it looks very good on lesser hardware too.

*The downloaded mk4 file was a grey pixelated mess on the htpc. I could only watch the youtube version.

I just got a Pixel XL also and it's a gorgeous screen. I read that they enabled software decoding of HDR for YouTube on it so I wasn't sure if it just looked amazing because it's a fantastic OLED screen or if it really was in HDR on it. If it looked identical to your TV though, I'd assume not.

I use the THX Tune Up App

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/thx-...592624594?mt=8

You have to have a way to mirror it to the TV, so on iOS I use my iPhone and Apple TV. Not sure if there's an Android equivalent, but it's worked good for me.

Youtube HDR10 hasn't been enabled on my G6 as of yet, but it does do Dolby Vision HDR on Netflix. It simply does not compare to the same content on the 65" OLED.

I've watched that World in Color demo so many times since bringing home the new TV that it actually pisses my GF off every time she sees it now. "goddamnit...again?!" This one from Sony is my current favorite HDR demo. The contrast between highlights and the dark skies is amazing.

My TV finally gets delivered today. I go to bed at about 1pm but the only window available for delivery was 2-5pm.

You didn't schedule a PTO day around your new toy? I question your gadget geekdom, sir!

Sarah used to (and still occasionally does) say that about this.

I had to use the rest I had back in April or May when it was flooding here and I literally couldn't get to work.

I bought an LG OLED 55in about 5 months ago. Fantastic quality. Before I made the buy, I was reading up about Samsung's QLED. Glad I didn't go that route. Reviews are all pretty unanimous that OLED is better.

That was my first UHD purchase, and it was worth every penny. "Cities" is probably the best showcase for HDR in the set. but "Islands" was my favorite. Go little iguana, go!

It's hardware, not software.

I'm watching the Komodo dragons **** each other up. It literally looks like they're right in front of you.

I also know that when I get to that part, I won't be able to not hear this:

Not going to happen. You can pick up a UHD player for as little as $140 theses days. Sign up for Fry's promo code emails. They've been alternating Samsung's UBD‑K8500 and LG's UP970 at that price (with the promo code), shipped, pretty much every other week for the last couple of months.
