I think cousin Kenny stands by the cones and calls that work.

Got another sample back from blackstone, this time from my 112k mile LGT running Rotella t6 5w40. Great results again!

Only 3k miles on the oil, had to add only 1/4qt, but I just bought the car 5 months ago and wanted to get a good baseline look at how the oil was doing. Will likely extend out to 4k miles for next sample prob after another 10k miles. Should add, most of my driving is around town, short trips, very little highway.

Cousin Kenny there for support.
James, what's that engine hoist doing there? I heard the motor in your car was entirely made of lightweight titanium so you were able to simply pick up the whole long block and move it effortlessly.

Ha the hoist was for the old motor. I can carry the whole long block, not effortlessly though, because i didnt spring for the titanium. The new motor will be easier to carry because the clutch isnt on it.

The hoist was the right price and the right tool for the job. It makes stuff easier. Im getting old.

Good question? He picked the engine up with ease when he was here.......he made it look like it was titanium!

I received a call today from a local guy asking why we didn't post a link to our group buy in the Pgh thread because he was interested in a few items. I thought we already did, but if not here you go!

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2395474

The GB includes Blast Plates, exhaust manifolds, uppipes, downpipes, catbacks and more! Take a look and shoot us a pm or email if you have questions or would like to be added to the list.

Also, we are currently doing a custom build for a client's Toyota FJ including a lift, custom powder coat on many exterior components, custom graphics, new wheels and tires with one off custom rock rings, etc, etc (pics coming soon). Along with all the custom pieces we needed a window tint job that was as good as the other items of the truck, so we brought in a company to tint the windows that I've personally worked with for years. They are the best in the business and we are now offering their services at our our new shop location by appointment only. For our FJ they tinted the glass up the very end of the window (not just to the rubber trim) and file finished the edges for an absolutely perfect fit. They have many options available for all makes and models and they are also the only company that can one piece tint the llooonnngggg rear window of the newer Corvettes. If you're looking to have your windows, taillights, or any other items tinted don't hesitate to call as we now have the best guys in burgh coming to our new location to service your specific needs.

That would result in an overall less volume of metal used for the same structural integrity and in turn be a much lighter motor......

Correct! Unfortunately the previous posts have no seriousness so it doesn't really matter. The posts were essentially joking around saying that James is beast and he lifts Subaru longblocks with no problem, whether Ti, aluminum, plastic, or any other lightweight material. No hoist needed!

Sure that is true but has nothing to do with the requirements needed for bolt on accessories, access to fasteners inside the block , etc. your talking about a theoretical one off, stripped bare bones block, in which makes no sense in the present context.

Uhhh, yeah exactly. Subaru made just a few of these engines in anticipation of F1 2021 rules that were created in an attempt to reduce engine output even more. The result was a 4 cylinder block made entirely of Titanium. But due to some logistical error at FHI, it ended up in James' car.

Shek does that mean i dont need sleeves?

Seriously i think the only titanium in my motor is the valve spring retainers.

soo, while it's a joke, i just want to lay to rest the thermal qualities of titanium suck for engine block purposes, and making one in a convoluted thin web would make it even worse.

i had an idea of machining a block from a strong low density open cell aluminum foam, where the block was basically impregnated with an epoxy and crushed/sealed to the right shape, where the crushing takes place, there's much more material and stronger/denser. steel oil galleys and cylinder liners pressed in, and a highish pressure cooling system forces coolant through the block foam cells at collected end plates.

also i'm really surprised you and cousin kenny didn't just lift that engine out while high fiving or armwrestling or something. or use some coordinated 50ton electric crane to rip it out.

my preferred method of removing engines is inviting my buds duke and dillon over, the ensuing force usually removes all engines in the vicinity...

Here you go... 112k miles, Cobb Stg1, mostly around town with rural roads & very little highway driving, lots of short trips.

If i was allowed to drive into my plant i would have used the 50 ton to pull the motor! We use one to change tires on our work buggy when we get a flat.

Basically i had the hoist because some guy i work with was like "hey your doing all this work on your car, i want to clean out my garage and i got this engine hoist" and i was like how much? and he was like "just come and get it so its not in my garage" so i went and got it, gave him 20 for helping me out and drank some of his beer.

Cousin Kenny was only there because he wanted to see Ryan about his Virgin Beauty getting some implants.

It worked out though, and i got all this extra beer

The nice thing about using a 50 ton is that you dont need to disconnect anything. Just tie the car down and when the crane starts to lift it will automatically disconnect everything for you including the bell housing.

I watched an 80 ton main hoist shred 8 1 and 5/8 inch cables lifting a temper mill housing that was stuck in its footing. It was being dismantled to make way for a new tension leveler.

It still amazes me how much force can be exerted through mechanical advantage and electric motors.
