thanks.

and about the shifter, definitely get the bushings too, there is a huge difference time for a test drive

Do the bushings add any noise?

Also, here's a shot of the crossover in the driver's door:

neither me nor my wife notice any extra noise. I am actually pretty happy with the height of the cobb, and the notchiness is awesome. the overall slop didn't change at all with just the shifter, but with the bushing it feels pretty darn close to my friends BMW 335 shifter. I wish I had done this 10,000 miles ago

If you could turn back the clock, COBB or Kartboy? Which bushing did you install?

I did the kartboy front/rear bushings.

for the front bushing you need to drill out the hole in the outer washer a little bit, otherwise there is 1/32"-1/16" play. the rear is a PITA to install, had to lower the driveshaft to get the rear bushing on (but that was just 2 bolts at the bearing in the middle, didn't take any time to do with an air rachet)

if i had to do it again i would probably get the COBB just because if i didn't like something about it, i could have the option of adjusting it. I went pretty short on the throws, but not to the maximum shortness, i could have gone a bit shorter, but then I would have needed to trim a metal piece and I am already at probably 50% of what I had stock.

the other thing I really like about the COBB as opposed to the KB is the fact that the shifter still sits in the exact same location as factory, IE it is straight up and down in the center when in neutral. with the KB It gets angled forward a little because it is shaped like the factory shifter.

Haven't posted on here in quite a bit, but thought I'd offer an update for anyone interested. After much deliberation decided to trade in my '12 premium hatch for a '13 XV Crosstrek. The extra ground clearance was worth it for me, as I had bottomed out a couple times in the base hatch and battle many snowy roads come winter. Here are the biggest observations I have going from the Impreza to the Crosstrek:

-The styling of the Crosstrek looks really, really great in person. I got the tangerine orange color, and everyone I've encountered so far loves it. One guy in a 00's Outback honked and gave me a thumbs up on the highway already, and I've only had the car a few days. I really can't stress enough how cool this car looks.

-The CVT feels better tuned. I know much has been made of the Impreza's engine braking (mine was built Feb '12 and didn't qualify for any of the related TSBs). Going down hill in the Impreza, it almost felt as if I would lose speed. The XV feels far more natural.

-Interior feels better sorted and finished. For example, the headrests in my Impreza were loose and rattled like crazy from day one, but the ones in my XV fit very tight and secure. There also seems to be less road noise, but maybe that's just in my head? Another possibility is that the higher ride height means less debris getting kicked up and making a racket.

-Just drove it through a snowstorm this weekend, and no surprise here, it was incredible. Made it up un-plowed suburban hills with confidence and the extra ride height was really appreciated.

-XV handles great, feels nimble and secure. Ride quality around town feels firm and controlled. BUT I have noticed that at highway speeds (60+ mph), there is a rather significant amount of vibration felt in the steering wheel, seat, and floor, something I never felt in my Impreza. I'm hoping it may just be that the tire pressure is too high, which I should get around to checking tomorrow. Otherwise I'm not sure if this is indicative of all XVs or just mine.

Thanks for the info! How is the mpg compared to the Impreza?

Still waiting for my keys, on Monday the salesman said if they did not find the keys that evening, they'd cut new ones today with a "we'll call you when we're ready, don't bother us" attitude. I think one call per day is reasonable so I asked the sales manager during my lunch hour about them (vs going to the salesman again) so we'll see what that stirs up.

ETA:
Within an hour, the manager called me back and said I can pick up the originals.

Right now I'm only averaging about 25 according to the trip computer, while I averaged 31 in the Impreza. But the temperatures have been bitter cold and the car is brand new, so I guess I'll hold off on making a final judgement for the time being.

Forget MPG. Go for proper break-in.

noob question, I have snow tires (on rims) however I had them for a previous sedan (5 lug) will I need to balance the tires when getting them put on my WRX, or no? I've heard if they were already balanced on the rim before there's no need, but then again they are going on a different car, so I wasn't sure. Thanks for the help.

If you mount the tires onto different rims, you'll need to rebalance them as the weights are attached to the rim.

Yeah same tires on same rims just going on a different sedan. Bought them from a mechanic who had the same car I previously had, and had them as winter tires. Had these on my 04 VW GLI now want to see if they'll go on my WRX. They are like 15"s I believe and 5 lug as well, but I need to make sure they will fit on my WRX, don't see why they wouldn't but again I'm noob.

GLI and WRX both have a 5-100 bolt pattern, but you really need to verify they'll fit over your brakes without rubbing (offset, inner diameter, backspace). Your WRX should also have TPMS rims for safety.

It's extremely possible that even though both wheels are 5-lug, the lug spacing might be different. If you go onto TireRack.com and act as if you want to buy new wheels for both models of car, you'll be able to figure out if the lug pattern is the same. For example, you might see that one car needs a "5x100" lug pattern, while the other car needs a "5x110" lug pattern.

Then there are other factors like wheel offset, whether the 15" wheels will fit over your brakes, and so on. But start with the lug pattern, because I predict you're going to find right there that the VW wheels aren't compatible with the WRX. But I could be wrong.

Yeah both are 5-100 bolt pattern, but will need to get them checked out for fitting, thank you for the help everyone, appreciate it.

I got some Hella 500ff's for Christmas. Has anyone installed these behind the Sport Mesh Grille? It doesn't look like they will show through the regular grille. Would the mesh block the light to where it is pointless?

Try running your A/C when you get moisture/condensation in the car. A little known characteristic of Air Conditioning is that it actually de-humidifies the air. Don't worry, you can still have the heat on at the same time as A/C doesn't necessarily mean "cold air".

A lot of foggy windows in the wintertime can be solved by simply activating the A/C.

Good luck!

After 1500 miles on clock I decided to take the car for a long journey, then on the way home I felt like doing a bit over 100 mph so I reached 112 mph, but after about 2 mins the AT OIL TEMP warning light came on, the safest top speed of the car as recommended by the manual is 122 mph, so how can something like that happen? what can I do to stop it? Does it really need a new pressure switch? or an oil change can fix it?

AT OIL TEMP is your (automatic) transmission overheating, not your engine.
