Hi, everybody! I've been lurking on here since I placed the order for my car and thought it's about time I got around to being a bit more active and starting a journal. This is my first WRX and performance oriented car. My old car was getting a bit long in the tooth and I started a new job this spring, so I decided it was time to pull the trigger on a new car. I was drawn to the WRX because it gave me everything I needed in a DD (would've liked a hatch, but that horse has been beaten enough) and something I can have some fun driving. I couldn't be happier with the purchase so far. I just can't stop driving it (over 8000 mi since I picked it up Labor Day weekend).

Enough talk, let's get to the car. Excuse the cell phone pics. I had no other option until I bought a DSLR after christmas. More pictures to follow as I get better with the camera.

Thought I'd share a few pictures from my first day.


After waiting three and a half months, I had to sneak out of work at lunch to go catch a glimpse of her at the dealer.




Came back to pick her up after work. Pretty sure that stupid grin is still on my face.




Got her home for the first night and nestled in next to her little sister (who sadly is no longer there).




After the first wash. Didn't let the dealer touch it outside of taking the plastic off.

Took a few test shots with the new DSLR. Weather turned a bit wintery after I got to work.

What color writing did you go with on the mud flaps? Could you take a close up picture? I'm still not sure what color I want to go with on my wrb '15.

Excuse the dirt, the roads are a mess from overnight snow. Went with the blue. I'm happy with it as it appears to match the paint very well.

I already added a number of things to the car before I started this thread. Here are some quick thoughts on a few of them.

-OLM Lights

I know a number of people have had burnout and fitment issues with the LEDs. I have not had any of that happen to me, but my OCD paranoia has my constantly checking. Overall, they do their job and look a ton better than stock.

I really like the projector fog housings. They feel solidly built and provide good light coverage on the immediate road in front of the car while maintaining a sharp cutoff at the top of their range. I'm not as wild about the 3000K HIDs. The flicker a bit on start up and then have to warm up from lime green to the proper yellow. The warm up still happens even if I only switch to high beams for a few seconds. Subispeed sent me a replacement set when I brought the issue up to them. However, the second set behaved the same. I'm not sure if this is typical for HIDs like this since I'm not overly familiar with them. I may end up switching to an LED option since I could live with sacrificing some light output for more consistent performance.

-Subispeed DRL Harness

The quality of the harness has already been discussed in other threads. I hated the stock DRLs but still wanted something light up in the front. This does the job but I am keeping my eyes open for other options.

-Perrin Shift Stop & Bushing

Favorite thing I have done to the car so far. Shifts are much crisper and there is very little slop in 1st/2nd or 5th/6th. The shifter has a whole new feels. Will be interested in combining these with a STS kit in the future.

-JDM Grill

Improved looks way over the USDM version. Very easy install once you learn where all the fasteners are for the front bumper. i did this one at the same times the the front end lights since taking the bumper off gave easier access to the fogs and turnsignal housings.

-Rally Armor flaps

Paying dividends already in containing the salt and slush all over the roads. All four can be installed without lifting the car. However, adjusting and aligning the rear flaps can be a PITA unless you take the wheels off.

-Weathertech Mats

Don't care what car you have, just buy these for it. The fit and quality are much better than the OEM mats the dealer usually gives you. The raised sides come in real handy now. All the melted slush from my shoes is nicely contained and i can easily pull the mat out and dump it.


Not sure where I want to go from here. I'm trying to stay away from exterior stuff until winter is over. No sense in putting something on the outside of the car just to have it immediately abused by the elements. Maybe I'll continue to clean up the interior. The leather display hood and replacement shift/brake boots have been looking real enticing lately.

Started looking into short throw kits today. Only one on the market so far seems to be from Boomba. Anyone know of others that are out or soon to be out? I understand the whole new shifter design caused a lack of options when the car released. I'm not sure how long it will take the aftermarket to catch up.

Not much going on with the car right now. Winter has kind of put a halt to fun things to do to and with it (aside from some parking lot donuts the other weekend ). I did find a few things to share.

Before winter hit, I detailed the car just to get cleaned and sealed up before mother nature abused it. Clay bar, light polish on the hood, roof & trunk lid to remove glue from shipping plastic, then topped off with Chemical Guys Blacklight and Jetseal. I got it out in the sun the next morning and it just looked electric.



Now, just because I'm not doing right now to the car doesn't mean there aren't plans. I am patiently awaiting a certain Pacific Northwest company to send me an email update that they've finally got around to building me a certain part. I did receive a different part today. I won't give a full view until it's on the car but here is a teaser shot.



Spring can't get here soon enough.

So I noticed that one of my fog lights was burnt out on my way to work today. I am officially out of patience with these things. Subispeed already replaced them for me once and I was still not completely happy with them. Today just provides me with an excuse to replace them with something else.

First option is to install LED bulbs. That would let me keep the projector housings but I would like to stay in the 3000K range which has limited options for LED. Only ones I have found so far are Nokya (too green) and Subispeed (not wild about going back to the well after these lights).

Also thinking about the SMY/IPF JDM lights. The housings look fantastic and all the parts look to be good quality. The downsides are expense and I haven't seen very many reviews/pictures of them on 2015s. If anyone can speak for them, that would make biting the bullet much easier.

Go with the SMY/IPF. I installed these on my 2013 and could not be happier. Well worth the money you spend.

do you have any prob with the weathertech, the water spills @ the corner by the gas release pull tab?

I've had some pretty heavy snow melt come off my shoes this winter. None of it seems to have spilled out at that corner. Any water on them usually sits in the center of the matt. I try to be real careful when pulling them out if they're wet so I don't spill any then either.

The light output looks great, however i'm not sold on how they fit in the 2015s yet. I understand they're designed with a slight gap between the lens and bezel, but from some photos I've found it doesn't look even on all sides. In some cases it looks off center too. Not sure if that was installation error though.

Ran the car through the wash this weekend. Finally got a good look at the front end relatively clean since before winter. Woof...the season sure did a number on it. Dr. Colorchip has his work cut out for him once the weather warms up some more.

Finally, this awful winter appears to be over (today's temperature excluded). Now I can start getting some stuff on the car. First up is to get the winter tires off. I love the Winter Sports for the cold season, but the car doesn't feel as planted on them as compared to the summer tires. Summer tire swap means I get to mount the wheels that have been sitting in my garage for a few months.

Gold Enkei RPF1s 17x8 et45

Here are a few quick cell phone pics while storing my winter set up in my grandparents' barn.





Stayed with the OEM size because I couldn't justify not using the tires I already had. I wasn't exactly looking for new wheels this winter, but I stumbled upon a deal for these that was too good to pass up. I'm going to come up with my own center cap solution since the official caps are expensive and ugly (at least when I picture them on gold). I also have to take it back to the garage that mounted them to fix the TPMS sensors. I got a set of programmable Shrader EZ Sensors. Their tool would do one wheel and then error out on the others.

I should have several things going on the car soon, especially if Nameless decides to finally finish my midpipe. Ordered a catback in January. I got the axleback section last month, but I've been getting the "one more week" line from them on the midpipe for the last three weeks. I know there is a wait with them, but it's getting really frustrating at this point.

Thanks! I've been watching the forecast constantly for two weeks trying to figure out a safe time to pull the trigger. Actually had an appointment for last weekend but I had to cancel. I realized the morning of, my socket key for the locking lugs was nowhere to be found. Luckily, the dealer had a matching one so they could get the locks of during the week. A replacment just showed up this morning.


Few more shots after I cleaned up the car today.
