![]() Moroso Oil Pickup
fits 2.5L Subaru engines Product # MOR 24965 Alright, so recently had a cracked ringland issue so I pulled the motor and of course I found a cracked pickup in my 06 STI. I was considering purchasing a new oem unit, but the risk was too high in my opinion. I was looking at say a killer B unit or maybe one of the other vendors who sell similar products, but the price was overkill for what I needed. I had seen some photos of the Moroso pickup when they first came out, and they left a bit to be desired. The flange was not the same as the oem pickup and this caused some concerns for me. Anyways, I went ahead and picked one up to see what it was all about and I was pleasantly surprised. I bought this thing off of Amazon for $86. RSD sells them for $95 and Summit is like $105. I got free shipping and it came pretty quickly. Now, I have seen plenty of photos of the KillerB pickups. They are plain and simply beautiful. They are a work of art. But, they cost twice as much and after install, you will never see it again. The Moroso unit is VERY stout. After install I was using it as a handle to rotate my engine on the stand and it did not budge a single bit. The flange was redesigned at some point and it uses the oem style flange with the o-ring to seal it. I was very happy about that. The tube going into the flange is also now fully welded. The earlier models were not which was a complaint. Its made of steel and its thick. It weights a good 3-4x the stock unit. Fitment is perfect on block and its perfect on the oil pan. You can tell the welds on this thing were done by hand. They are not done by a $1,000,000 robot as thats a bit overkill. CLIFFS: Moroso redesigned their oil pickup. It fits perfect. Its mounted just like OEM. It costs half of what similar products sell for! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Interesting. I installed a Covert performance pickup a while ago, and was somewhat concerned with the fact that the flange tube didn't extend as far into the block as the stock pickup, but otherwise it's indestructible.
The thing i see about the moroso pickup that differs from the Stock, covert, and killerB pickups is the collector design. Those are designed such that they will still draw oil if sitting flat against the bottom of the pan, whereas the moroso design doesn't account for that. on the other hand, the surface area of the collector appears larger, so given the dimensions it probably couldn't sit flat against any of the oil pan surfaces. |

![]() About 8 months ago I hit a speed bump with my oil pan, I ordered a new oil pan and one of these oil pick ups just incase I damaged the oem one. The fitment was perfect and it's less expensive than the killer-b one. All in all I'd have to say it's a great replacement.

![]() The ads for this oil pickup from Moroso say it is an "extended" pickup. I am inferring that it is made to fit only the expensive Moroso oil pan. Is this true, or is it made for the stock pan on a 2002 WRX?

It is my understanding that when Subaru redesigned the EJ engine's oil pan, it became "pointier" and deeper. The OEM pickup also had to then extend down further. This redesign helped to eliminate oil starvation in situations where G-forces would force the oil in the pan to one side or the other, away from the pickup. This Moroso oil pickup has therefore been fabricated a bit longer to be used with Subaru's later designed oil pans. I installed a Moroso oil pickup (# 24965) on my EJ20K that I've also updated the oil pan to Subaru part# 11109AA151 and the windage tray/baffle to Subaru part# 10915AA010. I've autocrossed this 22 year old engine with these components. It's worked out great! . Last edited by Vancouver98STi; 12-27-2020 at 02:03 AM. Reason: Added part number |

![]() The OEM pickup stays within a certain distance from the bottom of hte pan. When the design changed from the shorter flat bottom to the dished-side STi pickup, so did the depth. Moroso's pickup only fits the deeper pan, which is why the pickup is longer than the pickup that normally comes with the flat bottom oil pan.
You can see all the differences in the OEM Pans RIGHT HERE
