Default If I was to move to the US, where should I move to?

Mostly a hypothetical question, really....but I'm kinda sorta entertaining the notion of moving to the US.

I started my company about 2 years ago (importing DJ equipment as a distributor), but since then, I took on the rights to distribution for ALL of north america.

At this point, I'd say 80% of my sales are in the US. Now, I'm, doing fine exporting the stuff from Canada to the US, but there are some drawbacks...it is still a pain to ship stuff over the border..with all the paperwork, long shipping times and it is expensive...I figure it'd be MUCH easier to do all this from the states, yknow...

But where would be an ideal place to move? I'd like to stick with a place similar to Montreal....a multi-cultural city that has everything, but not a city thats super huge, like LA or NYC...and a place that isnt super white trashy etc...

So whats out there? San Francisco/San Jose? Somewhere in Florida? NJ (nicer parts)? CO?

seriously...as much as I'm not a big fan of the US (I dont hate it, but it does have its advantages), it would be much cheaper and easier to live there...especially for my business....

No matter what these idiots tell you, NJ is a great place. You can split work between Philly and NYC, plus there are plenty of smaller NJ cities to do your thing.

So paperwork is a good reason?

Look, bitch, you either love this country or you don't! We don't need "citizens of convenience", eh!

But I hear Oregon is nice.

Denver, Colorado or Salt Lake City, Utah.

Yes I'm serious. I've lived in SLC all of my life and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. There's so much to do around here with the canyons and lakes and stuff, it's not even funny. Night life isn't quite as large as other cities, but it's not bad either.

And waking up and looking out your window to see Mountains everywhere covered in snow is just awesome.

And once you get tired of NJ, you can come to Pa and live even cheaper, like most NJ people end up doing. As for multi-cultural, the Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton area would be something to look into.

Couldn't be more wrong. NJ has more bad areas per square mile than any other state in the country.

It's terribly expensive to live there, and considering Gooseman's business, which is not a store front, why would he move to an expensive part of the country just to resell equipment? I spent 18 years in NJ, and it's the worst state I've ever been in.

Goose, if you're used to Canada, move to up state NY or NH or VT or something. You'll be close to your home and it's similar climate and inexpensive to live.

What should he do, import DJ equipment to the Little League Hall of Fame?

NJ has more opportunities for his kind of business.

just kidding. Actually, everyone I've spoken with says that Chicago is a great place to live. San Fran would be another option, but hope you've got $$$.

well, as an importer, it doesnt really matter where I am....I import to my warehouse, and then ship out to retail stores across the US. I guess it would make more sense to stick near the east coast, since the stuff comes from Europe...so flying/shipping the stuff in would be a little cheaper.

In his kind of business it doesn't matter where he is, which is obvious by where he's doing business from now. I'd imagine everything he's doing is over the phone or internet and reselling/dropshipping DJ equipment. He could do that from a basement in Alaska if he wanted to. There's no reason to destroy his profit margin by living in one of the mose expensive states in the country and paying NJ rent/mortgage and car insurance.

If you want nice weather and good prices, move to NC. It's booming but it's still cheap and very nice weather.

Princeton? Shady?

What, is some guy with a sweater thrown over his shoulders going to mug you for Starbucks money?

You know, I'm just so ****ing tired of the NJ sucks stereotypes that float around here. But hell, if it keeps you douchebags out of my state, fine.

Denver is a good option, pretty much the same idea as SLC, just the mountains are to the west. There is a lot to do here, and you are near enough everywhere else you may want to go.

We have hockey too, I hear Canadians love hockey.
