Arrow Need opinion on Diamond Audio sub's, and opinion on choosing a sub!

I listened to some D.A. subwoofer's at my local Magnolia hi-fi a couple of weeks ago, a 10" macdaddy to be exact, and it sounded pretty damn good. I am interested to see if anyone runs these sub's in their car right now and would be interested in what type of enclosure you run, what amp and wattage you run, and how the overall sound is (how crisp it is)

My situation: I am interested in using a JLW6 10" sub in an enclosure similar to subee-sounds with a JL 250/1 amp powering it. I am just worried that this setup will be underpowered and not loud enough for my tastes.

When I listend to it at the shop the woofer sounded very clear and defined compared to the other subs at the shop (kicker solobarics, etc...)and it uses less airspace then others I have seen, but it is limited by wattage to ~300rms. So my question to you all is what would you reccomend for a man like myself.

Requirements: (1) 10" sub (2) uses a minimal amount of airspace (to save trunk space) (3) in a sealed enclosure in the trunk corner of the WRX (3) and sound more crisp then sloppy (4) sound loud

Yeah I know this is subjective, but I want your opinions. I will be dynamating the whole trunk also. So for your suggestions I would like to know what subwoofer with what particular amp. I am kinda keen to the JL's mono amps, but suggestions are welcome

For eg. D.A. M6 10" with a JL 500/1 amp

Thanks in advance.

Im running two DA 10" m6's in a sealed enclosure right now. Their powered by a single JL 500/1. Even with just that amp they sound AMAZING tight sound real crisp just awesome. I would deffinatly reccomend them to anyone.

Adamw62: what net volume of airspace are you running to the M6's, and do you have any pictures?

I'd be more than happy to take pics for you, but cant untill tomorrow.
I really dont know offhand what the net volume of airspace off hand. Its a fairly small box though and they still sound like a million bucks. I'll call the guy that built it for me tomorrow and get the exact sizes for ya.

Hey well_armed. go to www.partsexpress.com and look up the Dayton MKII

Those will beat anything magnolia, circuit city, best buy, or good guys have.

.5 cuft and a Q of .7 It's one of the best audiophile subs on the market

The 10" Titanic MKII was designed to produce deep clean bass in a small enclosure. One possible design is a 1.5 cubic foot vented box tuned to 25Hz. This design produces clean, accurate bass down to 25Hz. At maximum power (300 watts) it will produce 114dB and remain linear to 21Hz! For automotive applications, we recommend a 0.50 cubic foot sealed box with 50% fill. With a Q alignment of 0.7 and the interior cabin gain of the automobile, this design will produce deep punchy bass. At full power it will produce over 114dB while never exceeding Xmax!

cars usually have a gain of up to 12db in their interior. So that 114db can translate to up to 126db.... Not too shabby and you'll have some great SQ

Isn't that something that you put in your home? I have heard about aluminum basket's and their audiophileness, but I don't know...

Do you know of anyone that has actually put this in their car? I primarily listen to mostly rap and some rock, so a good clean bump is necessary, do these accomplish this?

there is no such thing really as "car speakers" and "home speakers" If anything you may see more rubber surround speakers in a car environment since the foam surrounds rot in the sun.

But these speakers are built by Dayton which has been around forever. They are very dependable and were built to Parts Express standards. You should go into their forums and poke around, there is nothing but praises for this woofer. My buddy is running the 12" version in his car and he loves it. He hooked a 300watt RMS amp to it and can't stop talking about it. When I need audio info he is the guy I turn to. I swear by friend could give you a work over on speaker building theories and calculations.

I don't know if you ever cruise the NW section here on i-club, but I am leaving in a few weeks for hawaii for good. I was going to order this sub any day now, but decided to wait till I get there. Less to pack you know? But if I was still here I could "show you the light"
