At the Track Thompson Int'l Speedway to Repave/Reopen Road Course

From their FB update today...
Forecast opening for Spring of next year in Thompson, CT.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater
All - Thank you for all of your positive comments and support toward the re-paving and re-opening of the historic road course here at Thompson. We were planning on putting out a more formal press release next week with the accompanying image after we release our 2013 racing schedule and rules. The info that is being passed around in in fact true and did come from us. It was distributed to all the clubs, groups and schools that have worked with us to develop this plan and go through feasibility over the past two years. To clear up a couple things in the comments below. The venue, when used as a road course, will be primarily for club events, i.e., PCA, BMW, SCCA, etc, high performance driving schools, corporate outings, testing, etc. Our primary goal is to re-pave the historic course, upgrade degraded asphalt, safety barriers and overall facilities and amenities. When there are oval racing events the track will transform back to the traditional oval configuration. Parking will take place the same as it does now during oval events. Again, we will be releasing more on the facility upgrades and r-paving project over the next couple weeks. Any questions or concerns please message the facebook page and we will contact you personally.

Thank you again for all of your support.

I like this. Though I reserve my enthusiasm for when I am on my out-lap...

Fantastic, looks like a hoot and only 60 miles from home so AAA towing will be easy.

I work with a guy who lives right near the track and have been following this as much as I can. NASA has a date there this season.

well that sucks for NASA since it's not supposed to be done in time for this year!

It's great news, being 40 minutes away from my house....but we've heard this type of stuff before.

Yeah it would be fun to find out what the 09 is really capable of. (Like I don't know) I would like to explore that limit that you just can't do on the street.

Neat part is the dedicated autocross lot at the top of the hill. CART has been autocrossing there for a couple of years. Bumpy but fast.

I hope they repave the oval too so there's not a harsh transition.

Definitely curious to see how this turns out. It's an hour from me (half hour closer than Lime Rock). Hopefully they don't have preposterous sound restrictions.

ever been to a roundy round race? I do not think sound will be much of an issue.

I think the sound restrictions are a CT thing. A race team I know had to make up a muffled exhaust to test at Stafford.

Thompson is in CT. They run NASCAR modifieds. But who knows if there are other restrictions. Lime Rock can't run Sunday's because of the town and the dB limit is for the same reason.

Exactly, being a race track doesn't mean they aren't subject to ridiculous restrictions. ALMS prototypes? Sure. ZOMG 4cyl turbo, get off the track with that test pipe!

I didnt disagree. I was pointing out that Stafford is another track that has noise restrictions.

The sound restrictions will likely be the same as Lime Rock: A certain number of unmuffled days available per year, and a db restriction at the property limit which will likely translate to something slightly higher than Lime Rock because of the further distance from the property line to the nearest house. This is where the ownership of the track also owning the golf course helps.

It looks like there are only 2 residences within 1/2 mile of the track surface, the closest of which is about 1/4 mile away. That's a lot more remote than Lime Rock is.
