I think you'd need new fenders and quarter panels too.

Not to mention the matching bumpers!

Yeah the part where on the bumper that flows into the fender is actually molded into the bumper so you have to replace and paint the whole bumper. The fender flares/cladding also clip on not double sided tape. I had my last XV vinyl wrapped so trust I know this is fact b/c I had to take mine completely apart to remove the vinyl wrap

I had someone in, what I assume was, a stock XV park next to me yesterday while mountain biking.

I honestly thought it was an Impreza Sport for a second because it wasn't much higher than my Impreza. All I have is a 1/4" rear butt spacer. And my tires are actually like 1mm shorter than the stock 205/50-17s.

It might have been lowered but I really doubt it.

I might upgrade to some King Springs at some point, the standard height ones. They're like a 1/4"-1/2" lift.

FYI for anyone saying a lowered Crosstrek is just an Impreza, there is one major mechanical difference between the two cars: manual transmission gear ratios. If you used the same size tires on both cars, the Crosstrek gearing would be 10.8% stronger in 1st, 8% in 2nd through 4th, and 13.9% stronger in 5th.

Crosstrek
Final: 4.44
1st: 3.54
2nd: 1.89
3rd:1.30
4th:0.97
5th:0.78

Impreza
Final: 4.11
1st:3.45
2nd:1.89
3rd:1.30
4th:0.97
5th:0.74

Wow it's a totally different vehicle. I had no idea. That one small difference changed my opinion completely. Amazing!

You obviously don't autocross, because things like model-specific transmission ratios are the kind of thing people get excited about. And even if you don't plan on playing the PAX game, the FB20 is terrible for getting more power and gear ratios are the poor man's supercharger. Since a lowered XV on Impreza tire diameters would have 8%+ more torque delivered to the wheels, the net result would be an experience dead between an Impreza with a stock FB20 and an Impreza with an FB25 swapped in. Adding small improvements like the Throttle Happy tune would push it even closer to driving like an FB25 swap, and considering the problems people have had with FB25 swaps, it really makes an argument for the potential of a lowered XV being worth the premium over the Impreza. Hey, not amazing, but considering the FB20 is basically a dead-end for power, anything that has that big of an impact on effective force to the wheels shouldn't be scoffed at. Alternatively, we should all just leave our cars stock and save money for something with actual potential, but that would be boring.

How does 8% of 148 equal anywhere near 50hp?

Didn't earlier versions of the Impreza have 2tone body panels?

Anyway, I like the look of the xv dropped. More first gear torque with those gear ratios.

Front and rear bumper, unique.

Nice job.

First, the FB25 only has +22 hp and +29 lb-ft (at peak) over the FB20, not +50hp. Second, I never said just using the same size tires would make up the entire difference. I said just the tire change would get you half way to the driving experience of an FB25.

FB20 = 145 lb-ft
FB25 = 174 lb-ft
(145 + 174)/2 = 160 lb-ft
(148 lb-ft)*(1.08)= 160 lb-ft

Half way on the nose. Albeit these are peak numbers which doesn't tell the whole story of the torque curve, but it gives you an idea of what it would be like to drive.

I then said that some low hanging fruit like a tune would get you most of the rest of the way there. (174 lb-ft)/(1.08)= 161 lb-ft. So if you can pick up 16 lb-ft on the FB20 (should be doable with natural aspiration) and use Impreza sized tires on with the Crosstrek transmission, you'll have approximated the driving experience of the FB25.

I revive a pretty much old thread because what ever the search I make on Google, I'm always bring back to it...

I'm into choosing my next car and the XV come in mind for multiple reasons.

As Mitch W said, the XV have a significant more interesting tranny compare to the Impreza . The 4.44 ratio compare to the 4.11 is really a big thing back when the cool Impreza to have was an old GC RS...

But another big upgrade the XV have compare to the Impreza is also bigger front and rear brake. The disks diameter are both bigger.

I don't know for the US market (I'm canadian), but at equal trim level and equipment, the XV is cheaper to the Impreza at the dealer. I'm looking for an used XV and the price are pretty much similar. So on the used market, it's about the same price to get an XV and an Impreza (with same equipment). So the better tranny and bigger brake is a good think for a more sporty Impreza if you can't afford an WRX.

That being said, my question regarding the XV is obviously about lowering it. Is the geometry is fu*cked with the WRX coils installed? Can we remove some sort of spacer between crossmember and frame (as it was the case on the Impreza Outback Sport and Forester back in the day)?

Dude, that is beyond stupidity. Buying a lifted car and already having planned to lower it before you even buy it. The crosstrek weighs more, you're not going to accelerate faster with slightly different gearing.

WRX suspension is not interchangeable with the crosstrek. You'd need to buy full WRX suspension and swap, in which case you're into it more than a WRX and you're an even BIGGER idiot than you already were.
