Need insight: Accidentally ran car for 1 week without air filter.
My AEM Dry Filter (cone type) fell off while I drove my car in normal inclement conditions (drove over maybe 3 yards of gravel a few times). Possible humidity was 10%.
As soon as I found out the filter fell off, I re-installed it tightly, and have been adding seafoam to gas tank at each fill up. Then added seafoam to crankcase and sprayed some into the throttle body. Ever since, I've changed the oil 3 times. I plan on changing it one more time soon and will do a UOA soon too. Should I have to worry about anything after all that? Should I take any further precautionary steps to keep my engine going strong for as long as possible, like nothing happened to it? Any thoughts or insight is especially helpful and may offer peace of mind. Thanks everyone! Kind regards Louis

You're fine. You'd most likely already know if you had problems. A lot of the high HP drag cars don't use filters on they're turbos, and I've seen more then a few people do it on the street. Not recommend, but short term shouldn't cause any problems unless something large gets sucked into the engine

You already overdid it... wasting way more money than you need to to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

As of now, you've done enough. If you didn't look inside the intake tubing, do so and wipe off anything you find in there. |

No good will ever come from Seafoam in the oil.
If you want the best engine longevity: 1. Use a quality engine oil and change it on time. 2. Reinstall the stock intake and use an AC Delco air filter. |

The only time seafoam is highly effective is if you do a piston soak. Not the easiest thing to do on a horizontal engine either, you'd only be soaking half of the piston at best. And it only would remove carbon, it's not going to magically remove dirt that got into the intake. Their intake spray is moderately effective, again only at removing carbon though.

It will also strip oil from the bores and rings.

which isn't a problem unless you're running oil that's like 50% seafoam by volume for an hour at redline

Hey there,
Thanks! The intake is from HKS Performance. Besides the exhaust sound, the additional intake sound of air rushing into the throttle is loud and makes like a growl-ish sound. I couldn't feel any additional power however. Kind regards |

Hello all... Please excuse my ignorance but how would changing my car's oil clean out any particular matter that may have entered my intake? Unless it is fuel and oxygen, I thought whatever goes into the combustion chamber would stay in there, separate from the oil around the engine itself. Any knowledge on this will be helpful, thank you! Kind regards Louis |

Silicon = dust, dust can get past the rings into the oil. After one change the silicon should be gone though and there shouldn't be elevated wear metals.
