The RS didn't need 400HP any more than the new STi needs to be 400HP. 350 HP will do. It also had something Subaru cannot comprehend either, a modern, much more advanced AWD system with rear wheel bias that naturally oversteered instead of understeered.

You did mention something that Subaru has never updated. The inherit understeer problem with their severely dated AWD systems. Competitors have caught up and surpassed them. Torque vectoring half shafts. The RS had that, my truck has that, which is why my last Subaru left in 2012. It's a lack of progression in every area, except one, which I think that Subaru excels at, crash safety. I will give them that, they make the safest chassis, to me, on the market in heavy impact crashes. They took over from Volvo in being the safest unibody chassis out there. But vehicles like the Passport exist where you get a V6, a real transmission, and a much better AWD system than anything Subaru offers. Subaru buyers are just cultish. It's no different than that Toyota loyalist who has bought a Camry, every decade for 4 decades. And the "outdoorsy" type "look" the vehicles have. People like that image. I mean the thing will never see a dirt road but that's the rugged outdoor image these clowns seek which is why your beloved master has a new wilderness line to sprinkle crack cocaine on what they already sell. Even more "outdoorsy" looks, etc. I mean it's straight at this point.

And W in da F would I waste my own personal time talking to Booby customers? That's your job man, you know the job you get money from doing that. You expect me or anyone else to go do your job? That's a laugh. I'm an enthusiast. I do not care about one damn thing a CUV Subaru buyer has to say, I already know it. Image buys. People buy vehicles (the herd) for image, or some function/capability the vehicles has that they want to do some day but never will. Like tow an airplane, jump the thing off a sand dune, or take it off road, rock climbing. It's fantasy, image, and straight up marketing. That's America today, fake. Everything is for image. Their online pics or life is more important to them than reality. Image is more important to them in reality. I'm an enthusiast looking for enthusiast vehicles that are affordable. I care what the enthusiasts have to say, and many many of them of them agree with me on here. Your Forester buyer can pound sand.

This car has not progressed in any measurable way. The performance has not made any kind of big jump in 20 years while competitors have. The looks certainly haven't either. It's the same old thing, reskinned. And now some executive douche at Subaru wants the WRX to look like the other crap they offer on the lots like the Crosstek, Outback, and Forester, with the same black plastic body cladding, etc. Well I'll give it to them, it sure matches now. Same redline too.

And your handle on here is JustyWRC? Are you kidding me? You can't see the hypocrisy and sheer hilarity of your handle with any comment you make? WRC? Really? You should try to change your name to JustyCUV, or JustyBodyCladding, anything but world rally competition being mentioned in your handle. You, this brand, have as much to do with WRC as you do F1. Zero.

This entire post still screams that you still do not understand Subaru owners. The "herd" you talk about may be other manufacturers; but, pretty much every "pedestrian" model Subaru makes is a DIRECT response to what Subaru customers do with their cars. People were lifting their GLs and DLs and BRATs LONG before Outback existed. Subaru saw this and responded. I was a sedan guy at the time. I wanted what ended up being the SUS. Subaru responded. Just couldn't afford it way back when. The Wilderness Editions have been requested by the retailers for years cause their customers have been screaming for them. Sooo much so, retailers were doing the conversions themselves and having to take on the warranty costs themselves.

I hear you on not updating in 20 years. Obviously I'd LOVE for the STI to be undisputed top dog. But, again, The RS isn't "soooo" much better. It just isn't. I'm in no way saying it's not better at all either. And if the RS isn't putting times down at 350hp that soo much surpass an STI to the point it would come down to drivers. What kind of "improvement" is that? I wouldn't doubt that the WRX/STI hasn't been priority due to them not being bread and butter. I also wouldn't doubt it's taking them a minute to build an engine that'll hold up better to the folks that just can't not touch the engine. For whatever reason. All people do here is bitch and moan about these engines. Engineers are smart people. Smarter than me. WHY have they not done this or done that? I dunno. Smart engineers made the RS. And they flubbed on the engine as well. Did they not? There are only 2 boxer engine auto companies out there and the other one charges soo much for their car, and don't care about MPG, they don't count in comparison to the other one trying to make a car that is fun, reliable, and affordable. Have they screwed up? I won't argue that. Is this WRX ugly? People have been saying Subarus were ugly for as long as I have been around Subarus.

Subaru is in the market to make a good, fun, affordable car. The way you are talking, you are making "good" subjective. The WRX and STI are good cars. For what they are intended to be. 20 years ago, the STi and EVO were just ahead of their time. Cause fast forward to today and there is not another car out there that is soo far more advanced for the same money or availability. I'm hopeful for this next gen; but, I too have been disappointed and I'm ready to be disappointed again. So far, I was initially disappointed in the paper numbers of the WRX; but, after some discussions, I'm not nearly so now. But, I wasn't expecting a 300hp WRX either. I personally like the "ipad". Now, that IS probably cause I work there and am around it every single day I'm at the dealer. I know how to work it. Does everything I want it to. That's me. Someone tells me they don't like it, I ask why. MOST of the time it's just cause they don't know how to use it. THAT is my job at the dealership. After sale instruction.

As for JustyWRC. I obviously had a few Justys. I had seen one that a dude WAS rallying(here in the states) and I was a huge fan of the Subaru WRC team. I found a company in Arizona that was going to modify my '94. He said he was confident in getting it to 140hp. Told me the cost and I said I'd start working on it. Well, life likes curve balls. I had join here still with the intention of doing it. Decided against it when I went for a few parts and was laughed at. Didn't need to spend a ton of money on a car I wouldn't be able to get some parts for.

Sorry for the long posts. Luckily a slow day at the station today.

I truly hate how they are copying Toyota styling. ONLY acceptable place for this are the Twins and the Twins(Solterra/BZ4X).

There you go, want to go into business ? Lol, I’m sure that cladding is held by a few plastic clips. May turn out to be the easiest Subaru to retrofit aftermarket flares into.
I’m sure there are smarter people than me that are ready to jump on the new WRX to capitalize on the aftermarket possibilities. I can think of a few suspects, they’ll be held as the 22 wrx saviors. Subaru should design and sell wider flares on their SPT catalog, shot everybody up.
