The next Viper wont be a Dodge... it'll be an SRT
"Chrysler on Tuesday confirmed that the 2013 SRT Viper will hit the market in late 2012 - but not as a Dodge.
Chrysler told Inside Line the production car will debut next spring at the 2012 New York Auto Show. Chrysler said the 2013 Viper will share no parts with Maserati or Ferrari." http://www.insideline.com/dodge/2013...odge-name.html I wonder if SRT is going to have it's own lineup...

I was reading this yesterday and I don't see it as a good thing. The Viper is a halo vehicle for Dodge. It has always been that way and I don't think dropping it from the Dodge brand will have a positive impact on the Vipers reputation. If the Dodge brand was holding the vehicle back...I'd hate to know what kind of impact its parent company Chrysler has been having on this thing.
SRT is great and they are a division of Chrysler that I hope will continue to exist...however we all know what projects go first when **** hits the fan. SRT will be disbanded if Chrysler ever runs into financial troubles again, so will it become a Dodge again or be sold now that it is standing alone? I believe Fiat is doing an excellent job of getting their ducks in a row with Chrysler, maybe too good of a job. They are setting up new brands, separating old ones and making them stand on their own which will probably create some very good vehicles...but if anyone recalls when rumors were flying of Chrysler selling the Viper brand...Fiat considering making Ram its own brand so that it could be sold later...and the like, I think those rumors may possibly hold some water. |

Whoa guys, you are being a bit hard on it. The new viper may seem huge in pictures, but in real life it is quite small. Not a shoe or weird looking at all. While I do think they need to real in the extra body work, the viper has always been a pure expression of simplicity and rawness. For better or worse.
I for one am glad the new viper is not based on a ferrari or masserati. Does that mean it will not be a reskinned Alfa 8C? Who knows. But dodge needs a halo car. I was never a huge fan of the viper, but I never disliked them either. You always had to respect them. |

I have no real opinion on the car itself at this moment, but having it be an "SRT branded vehicle" is dumb.
The "SRT-4 isn't a Neon SRT-4" people and the "Ram Trucks is a separate brand from Dodge" people had a conference call and declared this even worse than they are. |

Dodge already lost the Ram trucks. My only concern is Fiat/Chrysler is dividing into more brands when it seems that condensing would be a better route for killing brand shopping for chassis (Dodge and Chrysler compete). But maybe Fiat is planning on killing Dodge, the brand has lost its two most notable assets. Nick |

Maybe if they do break off the SRT line they could bring this to fruition...

Man the Viper gets a lot of hate on these forums I've noticed. I've had a love for the viper since I first saw it. Just raw power and simplicity, and at a great price. I absolutely love the look of it (esp the late 90's) which also seems to puts me in the minority. They are pretty rare in my area (I see more Ferrari's and Maserati's, etc) so whenever I see one it really stands out. I've put it on my bucket list of cars to own. I'd choose this over a comparably priced Corvette any day.

Chrysler doesn't market the Dodge brand in too many countries outside of the US. That is the only reason its marketed as a Chrysler in some places which I believe stopped at some point and changed to Dodge later. That also has nothing to do with it being known in America since its conception as a Dodge, it will most likely not affect Viper sales more than it may impact the Dodge brand and make some loyalists unhappy.

So if Pontiac WAS the performance-oriented badge, but they ended up fail... so can we assume that SRT is the new and improved Pontiac?

This just confirms my theory I've had since the bankruptcy stuff-
Chrysler is trying to distance it's successful brands (Jeep, Ram pickups) and the high profile stuff (SRT) from the core brands in case they fail again. I figure when (not if, based on how miserable their mainline cars still are) Chrysler/Dodge finally fails for good, Ram, Jeep and SRT can probably soldier on without the parent company in terms of dealerships and such. All the attention on brand managers I've seen out of Chrysler just boosts that idea in my eyes. |
