There were some unfortunate accidents that involved people who have not been a danger to anyone else. These guys got stuck in bad situations, for whatever reason, and couldn't pull their heads above the water. Becky had a good point when she said that these guys will punish themselves a hell of a lot more than any of us can. For one, you don't have to pay to fix their cars... they do. For two, you didn't lose something you loved... a couple of the guys out there did. For three, cause I said so Biggles! Anyways... to those of you who have been warned, but still couldn't get it through your heads... here's a big ole along with some curse words ********* just for you! But in all seriousness, I'm really sorry that some people got their cars busted. If you need help gettin em fixed up, be sure to let the boards know.. we're always here to help.. - Miranda

I would never refuse to help someone fix their car if I had the time/materials/tools/ability; you can easily attest to that. True, I didn't lose anything I loved and in 2 out of 3 of the incidents, they were only a danger to themselves. (Cracked headlight cover and scuffed bumper are barely noteworthy IMO; folks routinely do more than that at gas pumps or at the wrong car wash.) Perhaps ostracize is a bit harsh...I just wish folks could learn from the mistakes of those who went before them. The bad publicity sucks and I hate seeing someone's car torn up; I've had to see two of my previous vehicles in such condition and it sucks. On a final thought, I find it really interesting how many folks (naysayers really) are so afraid of the pack or group driving, yet there have been 0 incidents in such groups; only folks going solo or in small numbers have had incidents. |

Actually at the bonfire I heard some folks talking to one of the biker guys who was amazed at how fast some of the Subarus were and someone brought up an incident from '02 where some rider who thought he was the shizz came up and started talking smack...at which point we told him "Ok, how about this: Try to keep up with a 165hp sedona red Subaru" ...and he couldn't (not even close actually.) |

Just have to be safe and emphasize that this is no race, this is a public road and you are not there to "practice" your race lines or techniques.. that's what the road course is for. You drive cuz you enjoy the drive, not use a public road as a test course.
Some of us drive a bit fast, (like Micah and as well as myself), but you have to know that if you are going to push yourself like that, THINK about the dangers of what you can impose on other people and THEN about yourself. We all want to be safe to drive the dragon again. I dont plan on becoming an accident because I want to keep myself away from it at all times. Just ask yourself "will I get into an accident if I do [fill in the blank]?" Normally the answer is yes because we sick people can think of a lot of things that can fill in the blank. Use your head, not your adrealine. Keefe |
