Good news! I only found it in this tread as well, my dealer was thankful for the insight too.

seems there really is a lack of communication between SOA and the dealers or this system isn't working.

i can't speak too much for other manufacturers, but when i had my honda and an elusive rattle, it took them a while to dig up a TSB to find the solution to my problem...so maybe this is an industry wide situation.

More than once I have had to point out GM TSBs to dealerships. To be honest, it's probably not so much the car companies as the dealerships. But, they have how many models they have to keep on top of? Probably boils down to information overload.

i guess it depends on how many TSBs there are out there for each model. looking at the tech website, there are only a handful of TSBs for the Impreza...multiply that by 6 models and i guess it's a healthy number, but not that big a list. if i were a service manager, i'd certainly try to keep up on those to avoid chasing around elusive problems....but that's maybe me and my attention to detail creeping in. (which gets me in trouble in focusing on these dumb rattles!)

Subaru only sells a few models though, and uses a small number of engines. Its not like the techs have to keep up with TSBs on a full lineup of cars, minivans, trucks, and heavy duty trucks with 25+ different engines. Heck then you go over to a GM dealership, and the problem gets multiplied by Buick/GMC/Cadillac which are often sold and serviced on the same lots.

My dealership had 8/10 pre-ordered Imprezas and then no more than 50 Imprezas that were built before January. Having said that, I can't really blame them for missing something that might be relevant to such a small number of cars. Mine was #6 and was received with about 20 other cars over a two week period (I took delivery on December 27, 2011). The number of TSBs and their topics (for all Subarus - even those six+ years old) is staggering. I might add that TSB "searching" is quite a lot like Web Searching - it's an art to get a positive match.

A few models, but for multiple years. And I am guessing the techs are more up to speed on more common, older cars that have come through more often. Say the MY 2000 to MY 2009. That said, if Subaru isn't getting the TSBs into the system fast enough, that is a whole different issue entirely.

Thanks again SleepNMnky ! My Stealer setup an appointment for WEDNESDAY and was blown away that I had the correct information, they had no clue. My car was manufactured in 12/11 so, I am confident that it does not have the updates. Man I love this BOARD, you guys are the best!

My dealership had just under 150 pre-orders. That's gotta be a logistical nightmare. Don't know that they're proactively looking at VINs and contacting customers, but I know they've had numerous complaints about drivability and MPG so hopefully at least those customers are being presented with the TSB info.

Default Appointment scheduled with dealer for next week

My dealer called me back today after yesterday telling me that there were no TSB's for the '12 Imprezza. A different person called me back at the request of my salesperson (who I had also emailed) and they informed me that the two drivability TSB's are out there and they would like to install them for me. I have an appointment setup for next week.

SOA also called me back to suggest I take the car into the dealer to be inspected. The SOA rep didn't seem aware that the TSB's were out there.

I'll let y'all know how it goes after next week

Just picked up my new 2012 Impreza Sport. You guys had me scared to death about power and road noise. This car is awesome. Fuel mileage? I will find out but right now; I don'y really care. Just enjoying the car!

Ha. I'm satisfied with the power and noise levels in my car except for a couple intermittent rattles. Mileage for me is ok too

Enjoy your car!

First fillup car showed 33.3mpg. I'm not sure the tank was full and the car idled much more than normal as salesman showed my the car and what not.

237.3 miles 7.3 gallons 32.5mpg 33.6 car display
374.2 miles 11.43 gallon 32.7mpg 35.4 car display
319.2 miles 9.73 gallons 32.8mpg 34.8 car display - tempature ranged from 40 to 60?
366.9 miles 11.48 gallons 31.96mpg 33.9 car display - tempature ranged from 30 to 55.
364.0 miles 10.54 gallons 34.5mpg 36.9 car display - tempature ranged from 40s to 70.

Current tank: Car display is 38.1 with about 140 miles. - temp ranging from 50 to 80.

The tank that shows 31.9 mpg was a cold week and had more true city street driving. My current tank is more highway (70%?) and temperature is warmer. So far I'm happy but a little worried what -10F might bring next winter. Each fill was about a weeks worth of driving so none of these are a single long trip.
Like many of you the car display is about 2mpg optimistic. I wonder if that is because we tend to at least somewhat top-off the tank so it has more gas than it knows about? Just .5 gallons more gas used over 350 miles would be close to that 2mpg difference.

Well, if you just look at the posted speed limits I'd say roughly 75% to 80%?? is highway. However, its my commute so there are days that traffic becomes stop-n-go. So 65 to 70%???? I haven't checked lately but my average speed readout tends to be around 35mph.

While none of the fill-ups are from a one day trip, most of my drives are in the 35 mile range. The few short (less than 3 mile) trips I take with a cold engine absolutely destroy the mpg average. I haven't done any yet this week, hence the 38+ so far.

i haven't thought hard about this, but i wouldn't think so.

if that were the case, during the early miles of the tank, it should show some astronomically high mileage since you were using up the extra "topped off" gas. i was always led to believe that the onboard computer is doing a calc based on the fuel injector use and odometer distance.

for whatever reason, this method of measuring is biased on the high side. (although my 3 tanks so far are about 1mpg optimistic...)

Second tank. 80/20 city. Avg speed 38kph. 8.4 l/100k.
Distance on tank was 573.5km. Filled up again looked to be about 3l left again in tank. Cvt 5dr base.

I've experienced the astronomically high mpg after fillups for a while. I fast fill to the first click, wait 5 seconds, slow fill to another click. That usually nets another .25 gallon or so.

I just filled tonight and saw some ridiculous numbers on the way back. My average after about 2 miles was around 50mpg. That's with a couple stops and rolling hills. Go figure.

On with the data!
311.2 miles
80/20 city/hwy
24mph avg
26.7mpg trip a
25mpg hand calc
2898 total miles

I was driving in a bit more spirited manner so a drop was expected.

Hmmm... Thx for the reality check. My first few miles after tank up start off really low because I basically have city driving for the 2-3 miles back home. Computer is usually at 26 even though it's all warmed up.

Same here. I top off to the nearest dollar past the click. Wonder if that extra is causing those high numbers right off the bat after a fill up. Ah well, the real calcs matter. Should have updates ones after this weekend. (post ECM reflash updates that is, even though it'll take more than one tank to see overall)

No. But ironically enough I did buy a $500 Trek bike. Maybe I should've re-thought that.

I chose the extended warranty & SOA had no record of my selection in their system. My dealership gave me the 2 yr maintenance plan on their own aside from the gift selection & SOA kept insisting that was my gift. They researched it for days & after my dealer made multiple calls they magically found my selection & mailed me my paperwork for an upgraded extended warranty ABOVE what the gift one offered. I lucked out!

I've got 1800 miles on my 5 speed sedan and lifetime MPG average is 29.5 MPG according to receipts (which are a bit lower than the on-board meter). Average speed is about 21 MPH as I've done very little highway driving.

This car has very aggressive deceleration fuel-cut settings. I've seen it cut fuel coasting down to 1100 RPM. Hills can be your friend. Always coast in gear.

The block heater is useful year round with a timer. If you have a fairly regular schedule, the PZEV startup can be minimized or even avoided. The shorter your commute is, the more this will improve your MPG numbers.
