Default new to Subaru and having trouble

i picked up an 2004 STI recently and when driving it home it broke down i took it to a shop and they said it was the clutch (the guy i bought it from said he just replaced it but had no proof so i had it replaced ) then they said it was a bad transmission and i didn't believe that so i took it somewhere else and it needed up being the axle so 3,000$ + the price of the car i got it home and i drove it another 10 miles and it started having idle issues and running lean and there is smoke coming out of the oil cap area and turbo area and now there is a cylinder 2 misfire it sounds like i'm going to need a new engine am i wrong ?

Ya, sorry for the bad news but you'll probably need a new eng. Sounds like ringland failure. Do a compression test and a leak down test.

What do you mean "it died"? Like how? Is it stock?

Very unfortunate. Sounds like previous owner knew the car was a ticking time bomb. Leak-down and compressions test to assess the extent of the damage, might be looking at a new engine

As others have said. Doesn’t sound great. Ringlamds. Do a leak down test to confirm

Can you give anymore info on the cars history? Miles? Did the car have any paperwork such as maintenance records? Mods?

Your first order of business needs to be a leakdown test. This tells you if you have air leaking out of rings or valves. This will tell you really what you’re up against. I would also highly suggest you dump the oil, see what color it looks like, smells like, is it low? And stick your finger in the oil plug hole and feel for debris. Lastly budget accordingly because you might be in for a good build.
