Default 08 wrx hatch concerns

Hey everyone!

Iíve been looking recently for a wrx and found one that really caught my eye

159xxx with brand new short block 2,000 miles on it - Power Windows
- Power locks
- Keyless entry
- Aftermarket wheels (snow tires good for one more season)
- Roof rack
- Rally Armor mud flaps
- K&N drop in air filter
- Full Turbo Back Nvidia N1 exhaust
- Multiple keys and fobs

New parts installed at 156,350,

- New Subaru Shortblock
- Both Heads machined and checked at Bay speed shop (New OEM head bolts)
- All new OEM Subaru gaskets in motor
- Gates timing belt kit with water pump
- New Front Axle Seals
- New Battery
- New Oem spark plugs
- New slave cylinder
- New Exedy Clutch and Flywheel
- TGV and Air pump deleted
- New transmission fluid, & coolant
- New Power Steering Rack and fluid
- New Inner and Outer Tie Rods

Sounds to good to be true for 10k right well from the looks of it there is a small rust hole on the rear drivers side skirt and looks like itís making itís way north moving up the body very small at the moment though and he must have a new short block cause he has his only one up for sale as well that had a knock...my Questions are 1. Does this car sound like itís worth 10k to you 2. How much would it take to fix that rust

Without pics of the rust it's hard to say, but figure there's substantially more rust than you can see. The side skirts are plastic, so is the rust under the side skirt?

- Does the seller have all the paperwork for the new parts and short block?
- Is this an OEM short block? If not, what are the build specs and who did it?
- Is the car tuned properly for the mods you listed? Are you 10000000% sure those are the only mods?
- Why is it being sold so soon after having a new short block put in?
- Have you taken the car to a reputable independent Subaru shop for a pre-purchase inspection?

Personally, I'd be skeptical of spending that kind of money on a car that isn't bone stock. It's not that hard to find early GR chassis for sub $12k. Take it to get a thorough PPI and then go to a reputable body shop and get a quote for the rust. Make your decision from the information you have after you get those things done.

So, the 08 WRXs are the sort of bastard children of the subaru world. The narrow body models from 08-10 are generally less liked than the 11-14s that were wide body. Most people consider 2008 the least desirable model year because they were the only 08-14 model that came with a smaller turbo and tended to have the weakest engine internals, so they were the least powerful of the generation.

Most of the features that you've listed are standard equipment for every one of these made. The drop in filter and mud flaps could be added to any car for less than $100. Roof rack and wheels are a plus, if you're into them.

Turboback exhaust w/ tgv ans air pump deletes means you are dealing with a protune of some sort. That could be good or bad but generally not something i consider a plus on a used car. You didn't mention an accessport, and if the owner uninstalled one that's one more thing to figure out.

$10k sounds high for this car. The mods & tune decrease resale value. Replacing the engine is kind of a wash, since buyers are going to wonder what else might break if the car were abused.

Best advice us to get an unaffiliated subaru mechanic to inspect and tel you what red flags they find. GL...

This is not nor do we have a body work estimation place here or anywhere online.

You need to find out pricing via KBB/NADA and get a pre-purchase inspection.

That's pretty expensive for a rusted example. Search Garandman and look at his near perfect condition narrow body that he asked $11k for. Another nasioc'r bought it. A grand less for a car with cancer......nope.
