My 03 stg 2 WRX lasted 11 years and 180K miles with no engine issues before I traded it in for my 15 stg 1 WRX that's on 93K miles with no engine issues either. I know lots of turbo engines have issues some through no fault of the owner but I wouldn't hesitate to get another turbo Subaru at this point.

As for the batteries, yeah the OEM sucks. I had the battery replaced after 3 years on my 15 under warranty as I believe there was a TSB for it. The next one lasted a bit longer but still not great. My wife's 14 Forester had batter issues too so I replaced the OEM with an aftermarket.

Does this have anything to do with the CVT model cars? I did note a few people bringing up WRXes (especially GR WRXes which I was surprised to see), but I haven't experienced this issue on my MY16 STi.

The manual STi cars won't have eyesight or any of the other more modern Subaru strangeness. Is that related? The MY16 also has an ancient headunit and HIDs. Just wondering what the actual variables in play are.
