Unhappy 08-14 wrx/sti crazy rear fender dirt accumulation!

Not sure where to post but thought you guys might want to look behind your fender liner at the rear wheel, jack side. I found about 2" of wet sand/dirt that could not find its way out and just sat against the sheet metal. There will be some surface rust to clean up now.

I will probably have to modify the fender liner so things can drain freely.

Hopefully the pictures work:

Yup I had the same thing. Dirt builds up in all the panels near the ground. Front fenders and side skirts as well.

Oh Geez, I should look back there as well. Mind sharing your progress as you clean up the surface rust?

Looks to me its a combination of the liner being too tight not allowing drainage and at the bottom the seam sealer they used caused high spots trapping water/dirt from draining out. I may put spacers in to allow some air gaps for drainage.

I plan on hitting it with brass wire wheel and cleaning it to shiny metal. Will have to remove some of that seam sealer but it looks to be causing some of the issues anyway. I can always buy some and seal the joints but keep it flat and smooth. Prime and paint. I will snap pics along the way.

I already did the pinch welds and the front fenders. The car is actually in really good shape. I'm just cleaning these up as I am leaning on keeping it for a while.
I did have it "rust proofed" but I am learning it only really goes as far as the guys spray it... they don't remove liners, side skirts, engine bay plastic pan, etc....
