Hello everyone, my names demsome! I'm 26 and live in Central AR. Just recently bought a 03 Impreza OBS bugeye 5mt. 188k miles, EJ25 n/a motor was REPLACED before 100k due to driving with no oil. Previous owner put 50k on it in a short time, probably roughly as he drives non-normal. Before I can get this thing road worthy I have to buy an alternator and new tires, hopefully thats all. Was going to change all filteres, fluid and run the codes. Didnt super inspect everything because of how cheap it was. Just jumped, as I am a subi fan, subi educated, and a decent mechanic.
Q: I know to test the diffs and VC with tight slow circles and figure 8s but what else should I do to inspect it?
Q: assuming the suspension is stock 03 obs whats the largest tires I can put without rubbing frame, tower or reducing turn much if at all? At2 grabber or $bFGko2$? 215/65(70?)r16 or 235(rub?)65(60)r16? Bumper n well is getn cut.
My goal is to lift it with aftermarket forester Lsprings and struts to put a tow hitch. Maybe hub spacers as well.
Q: I hear the bearings are failure prone, is there anyway to fix with large tires?
Q: how high can I go without using new cva's and steering knuckle? I also dont want to destroy cva's off road.
Q: anyone here EJ25 Carburetor savvy? Ima younger cat that likes mechanical stuff over tuning comps. I plan on ripping every computer I can outa this thing eventually.
Q: with efi removed, throttle cable installed, is there any programing that is essential and non removable for AWD to function?

Any help will be appreciated. Love this site! Great info thats no where else!

the only way to beef up the bearings is go STI hubs/brakes wheels. you cant go much wider on tire without hitting the rear strut.

carby? ok. makes no sense to me but it should run even worse and get even worse fuel economy than a stock suby if that's your thing. the 5MT will run just fine without electricity. you can also strip the starter and put a crank through the grill then you dont even need a battery.

you can lift the back pretty high if you drop the diff. you could probably lift it 2-3" without having to though. look up "dirty impreza" or something like that.

You can use a hi-lift jack to raise the back about 4 feet with no further modifications.

^thanks CarmelValleyWRX, To clarify I love ELECTRICITY! But not computer programs running toys, especially snorkled ones. I do love the EBD and ABS tho.
