Default Swapping in an 2006 STI crossmember into 1990 Legacy.

Motor is out and while its out, I have been wanting to use a highflow turbo header versus the Borla header and custom uppipe.

So.....

Swapped in a 2006 STI crossmember.

Bolts right in.

Issues that needed to be addressed.

Need to use about 1/4" thick washer for the swing (?) arms and the STI one has a fatter "head".

If you want to use your old steering rack, you need to cut out a bunch of metal on the STI crossmember, no structural issues would result. For myself, I don't have power steering, so the metal tubes will be removed from the steering rack.

Sway bar........ Hmmmmmm, gonna have to figure out how to mount the stock one, or find a STI front sway.....

Takes about 2 hours with air tools to do.

Dont waste your time with the old style sway bar mounts. Find the correct fitting turbo bar and brackets and your life will be easier.

WRX cross member needs different control arms or shims.

You could drastically improve your front/rear weight distribution if you cleaned the 6" of caked on crap off the frame rails while you have the engine out.

That "crap" is history!

Yeah, having issues with the steering rack and the crossmember. But since I dont need the power steering, it will work with luck....
